Situated on Tagish Lake (all territorial parks in the Yukon are located on bodies of water), this 29 site campground is most lovely. Generally sites are spacious and all have picnic table and fire ring. There are two huge pull-through sites (#23 & 26). There is a playground and a shelter with tables and a wood stove. As with all territorial parks, firewood is free, however the wood that they provide is NOT split. So be prepared to do some serious splitting before you ever get a fire lit. There is a faucet but it is not threaded so tank fills are not possible. As with all territorial parks they advise boiling water before using. This potentially needless activity would not be necessary if park staff tested the water! My biggest concern, however, is the entry road. It is on a fairly steep grade and the gravel surface is like a washboard. I was unable to go up the road without my truck sliding from side to side. I mention this as a caution for those hauling big rigs. We camped at Conrad Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

My initial look at the new Territorial campground at Conrad last fall left me with a very negative opinion of it, so I decided to have a really good look around now that the snow is gone, though it doesn't open for another month. My summary now is that I have absolutely nothing good to say about the campground. It's planning, engineering and construction are all hugely flawed. Only 2 of the campsites are even close to being level, and many are sloped in two directions. The location and views are wonderful, and deserve a well-built campground. There isn't even any beach access, much less a boat launch - the superb and endless gravel beach of Windy Arm (Tagish Lake) is a couple of hundred feet through brush below the lower campsites. Even the tables are very poorly built, and I expect some will be broken during the first season. The group camping site is an old gravel pit, and has lost none of that character. I expected a great campground that we would use often, but we won't be back. We camped at Conrad Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Conrad historic townsite is a few hundred yards away - 2 buildings and the ruins of a mining aerial tramway remain, and the gravel beach is excellent. Superb hiking on Montana Mountain starts a mile away.
