If you have a sense of adventure and want some fantastic scenery, don't miss this place. This park rivals Denali NP in Alaska in some respects. While it doesn't have the huge Denali mountain, it does have the tundra covered countryside and panoramic views. If you like to hike there are a couple of good well maintained trails. However, you can hike and backpack to your hearts content and you don't have to ride the shuttle bus to get there like Denali. Just drive your vehicle to where you want to hike and take off across the tundra. There are several boondocking spots along the hwy within the 20 miles north of the CG. Park in one of them for fantastic views of the country side, mountains and sun rise and sunsets.

One word of caution, it is 45 miles of gravel road to get to the CG. In Aug 2016, the last 15 miles had lots of potholes. None of the potholes were very deep, but they sure rattled our motorhome on the way in and out. Plan on a 2 hour drive from the paved highway to the CG. I would have given this CG a 10 except for the potholes in the road inside the CG. The campsites are large and well separated from your neighbors. Most sites are open to the sky so your solar panels work well. Don't miss the visitor center, great displays and info about the park. We stayed in the CG for 2 nights and spent one night boondocking at KM 80.5, fantastic view of mountains. We camped at Tombstone Park Campground (Yukon Government) in a Motorhome.

Love love love this campground!

Being a government campground, it was very basic, but we expected that and we were quite self-sufficient in our truck camper for the 4 nights we stayed there. Each site had a fire pit and picnic table, and there was FREE FIREWOOD! There were several vault toilets around the camp ground, all in very good condition, very clean and not smelly! River water was available from a tap - boil before consuming.

There are around 36 sites, on a first-come-first-served basis. We arrived mid week, and had no problem finding a site. By the weekend there were campers in the overflow areas and in the parking lot of the interpretive center. As a result, I'd recommend a mid-week stay during the peak season, and try not too arrive too late in the day.

A short walk to the interpretive center, where staff were friendly and super helpful in recommending hikes for us. Free activities most evenings.

A great place to base yourself for some peace and quiet, and access to some of the most amazing wilderness you'll ever find. We plan on spending at least a week here next time. We camped at Tombstone Park Campground (Yukon Government) in a Truck Camper.

Tips for other Campers:

Even if you don't plan to drive the Dempster all the way to Inuvik, spend a day driving further north - cross the continental divide and watch the landscape change from mountains to rolling hills and tundra. Fabulous.

This campground is the first one that is located on the Dempster Highway within the Tombstone Territorial Park in the Yukon Territory. Without a doubt it was the most beautiful scenery that we found in the Yukon Territory. The mountain vistas were absolutely stunning, epic, and inspiring. The campground is like one that a person would find in a U.S. Forest Service campground. Stay here for access to magnificent country and a quiet, calm campground. We camped at Tombstone Park Campground (Yukon Government) in a Truck Camper.
