The July 2017 review is accurate. My rate is converted to USD. I found a site long and level enough for our motorhome. Some will not work. There is ongoing upgrades in the park and they may be leveling the sites more. It is a very scenic location and we enjoyed going a short distance to the shores of Kathleen Lake (see image). Because it is south of the AK highway, it may not have as much traffic, but there were probably a quarter of the sites taken for the night. Some of the higher number sites will have a partial view of the lake. We camped at Kathleen Lake (Parks Canada) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Walk around the trail to the right side of the lake and find the "red chairs" sponsored by the National Park Service and enjoy the view. You have to leave the boardwalk and walk along the shore - follow it around for a great relaxing view. Also, read the info panels about the unique salmon in this lake and the massive glacier dam.

Overall Rating:

This is a lovely National Parks Canada campground. During Canada's 150th year, entry to all Parks Canada sites is free (a savings of $8 per person per night). The regular camping fees do apply, which at this campground are $15.70/night, plus $8 for unlimited firewood if want to have a fire. Unlike at other Ntl Parks, they do a terrible job of splitting the firewood. Bring a massive ax or log splitter, because you will have plenty of splitting to do before you will be ready to light a fire - it is ridiculous; pure laziness on the part of Parks Canada staff. This is an unserviced campground with spacious sites and very good privacy between sites. There is water from a spigot but it is not threaded and not accessible by RVs so tank fills are not possible. There is a permanent sign that recommends boiling water for 5 minutes, so the water is not tested regularly. All sites have a picnic table and fire ring. Beautiful Kathleen is a short .6 km walk from the campground. Recycling is of cans only. No cell or WiFi reception in the campground but there is at the Visitor Information Ctre. There is no laundry or dump station in the campground. The closest dump stations are at Kluane RV Park ($5, free with fuel fill-up, and Petro 60 - $10, free with fuel fill up). We camped at Kathleen Lake (Parks Canada) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

As of 2015 there is a small grocery "Little Green Apple" next to the Fast Gas station that carries the basics. The Village Bakery sells fresh baked goods and has a Salmon Bake with live entertainment on Friday nights ($32).

The closest laundry is at Kluane RV Park and AlCan Motor Inn. There are 4 gas stations in town, the best prices I found were at Source Motors (closed Sundays) and Kulane RV Park, both on the AlCan past the junction heading north, where diesel was 8 to 11 cents a litre less than at the other stations in the community.

Overall Rating:

Wonderful territorial park ground, easy in and out. Good gravel roads, well maintained campground. Firewood plentiful for a small fee, with solid fire rings. Weekly campfire lectures with hot tea served. Only in Canada! Short hike to Kathleen Lake. Be sure to get a fishing license because the trout are plentiful. The lake also has a nice floating dock and concrete ramp. Lots of hiking trails, but beware of bears on any extended hikes. Although they are small by comparison to those we saw in Southeast Alaska, these are still grizzly bears. Some black bears in the area as well, but the campground was fairly safe due to cleanliness. We stayed a week and used the fresh water supply that was readily available. We camped at Kathleen Lake (Parks Canada) in a Motorhome.

This is a typical government campground. It was spacious back-in sites with privacy. Our 40' motorhome fit fine. The vault toilets were clean. No water when we were there. No dump. Wood was $8!! The site was $15.70 Canadian. We don't know how they arrived at that amount. None of the sites are on the gorgeous huge lake. The day use is a good walk or drive. This is about 15 miles from Haines Junction on the Haines Highway. We camped at Kathleen Lake (Parks Canada) in a Motorhome.
