The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. They have a dynamite screened in pool and hot tub that we immediately used. It rained while we were there so other than using the pool, we ran around the rest of the time in Tarpon Springs. I guess if you stay longer, there seems to be a lot of activities which I assume we could have participated in. The area where we parked was an open grassy lot which was well mowed and next to the golf course. There were no trees on it and no picnic tables or fire rings like most campgrounds. We stayed here since we had a couple days to kill before we checked into Disney and we wanted to check out the former Airstream park.
The rate here was actually 22 plus a 3 parkpass. The park is beautiful with a museum for all the wars. Outside the office, there's planes, and helicopters, and various tanks. We only stopped for one night off of I-75. We did not stay on the lake but had a gorgeous lake view as the sites across from us were not occupied. The sites here were quite large and full of trees. Even though it's quite pretty, I don't think I'd want to spend much time here without a pool since I'm sure that lake is full of gators.
I feel this KOA is quite expensive but we didn't plan ahead and wanted to be close to Cades Cove. I think we could have gone next door to Tremont and saved some money but we didn't try. We actually spent four nights in this park in 3 sites. Our riverfront site was quite expensive as it was around 70 on a Sat night. We were in site numbers 35, 8, and 13. On all 3 I could get online, however if I wanted it to be fast, I went closer to the office. They must reserve specific sites here, for the one we had to move from, was never occupied so I guess those folks paid and didn't show up. I think the next time I'll plan ahead and save some money for we are in the park all day so I don't see a need to spend that much.
The staff was quite helpful to us. We booked three nights and they held two additional nights for us until we could run out to Townsend to see if we wanted to move there for the weekend. In this high volume season, I thought this was quite nice. We have no slides so the site was perfect for us spacewise. Most of the campers around us seem to be return visitors as we will be. Also it was quite warm for October so they still had their pool open. Most other campgrounds had already closed theirs. If we hadn't been on the go so much, I would have used it.
