We only stayed here for a night to meet up with friends before heading to Virginia Beach. All sites looked shaded and fairly decent in size. The restrooms were cleaned but showing their age. Traffic from the nearby interstate could be heard but wasn’t bothersome. Only 10-15 minute drive from Williamsburg area attractions, we plan to stay here again in the Fall when we return to the area.

This park was nice. It looks to be an older state park but still well maintained. The roads are paved but the sites are just sand/dirt (ours was level). Daily activities scheduled. Store was well stocked and restrooms in that area were newer. There’s a trail center across the street and a museum located near the beach. Sites near the dunes didn’t look to be shaded, sites on back sides of loops were shaded but near a busy road. Not sure if we’d stay here again, as we all missed having a pool, but that's nothing against the campground itself.

What a great campground that is so close to home for us. This was our first but certainly not our last visit to the Solomons Island Navy Recreation Center. We reserved 2 primitive tent sites side-by-side and camped with 3 other families. These sites were spacious and very easily accommodated 4 larger sized tents with plenty of room for lounging and even parking 4 vehicles. Each site had a fire ring and stationary grill. We were in the front of the park near the highway and camp access roads but didnt have any complaints about the noise like a previous reviewer mentioned, you could hear some traffic but it really didnt bother us at all. The scheduled activities that we attended were top notch. The private beach was wonderful, very clean and we saw no jellyfish (although we didnt go very far from shore). Since one couple had bought their boat we enjoyed the on-site marina. The 3 playgrounds, mini-golf course and game room were both clean and appeared to be well maintained. There are 4 swimming pools (baby/toddler pool, 1.5 4.5 foot pool, 3.5-4.5 pool with slide, and a 6-12 pool with slide & diving board), but all were freezing. Since it was the weather was soo nice, I guess I shouldnt complain about that though. We stayed on a holiday weekend and the campground was pretty full but we never had to wait for bathroom or shower use (the bathhouse near our site ~in the F section I believe~ was somewhat dated and the showers were small but it was clean for the most part). All and all there were no complaints from anyone we camped with.

We enjoyed our stay at this campground. Very close to the park and the shuttle option was great, just wish there was more than one bus (that is shared with the hotel down the street - made the closing runs long and crowded). The pool wasn't the cleanest and if you have small children they are not allowed to use their own floatation devices - must use provided life preservers for insurance reasons. We were in the front of the park close to the bath house which was convenient however there are only 2 so it could be quite a hike depending on where your site is located. The road noise didnt bother us; neither did the train that runs parallel to the campground. The camp store was well stocked, and the kids enjoyed the game room and the television/lounge area provided great little resting place since it was 100 degrees out. The mini golf course isnt worth the $2 they charge per player but they do have a nice playground and volleyball pit so there are other activities. Well be returning again since we have Season Passes however unless we were going to the park, I dont think wed visit.

We camped here while visiting the Carrowinds theme park, only took us 10 minutes to get to the park from this campground. The sites were decent sized and there was space between them. The fire pits were large and had built in grates you could flip over to cook on. The bathrooms were fairly clean, however a little run down. The playgrounds were very clean and maintained. The hiking trails were clearly marked. There were paddle boats available for rent and a pier for fishing. We didn't have time to visit the actual Nature Preserve however it looked nice.

We stayed for the 4th of July holiday weekend. Although the campground was fully booked we still had a great time and didn't feel cramped at all. Very friendly staff and very clean campground. There were tons of activities for kids and the $10 length of stay bracelet for mini-golf/peddle carts/moon bounce was a great value. We cant wait to visit again.
