We've stayed in the park in the past and loved it. New things this season - no rugs or mats because they are "trying to grow grass." But they haven't put top soil or seed down or closed down a site. So there is a lot of dirt and very little stone. I understand the growing grass concept, but they should do something to accomplish that other than banning rugs. Or just put down stone and realize that it you are booking sites, grass won't grow. Also, the casino shuttle doesn't stop at your site any more. You have to walk down to the entrance to your loop. That is nice because the shuttles are very loud at 2 a.m. But it is a dark walk back to your RV. The campground is beautiful but be aware of the changes.

We reserved an ocean front site last September for this vacation. We rescheduled our vacation so we could have this site. The management never told us that major road construction would be going on right in front of our campsite. We had to ask why the bulldozer, crane, back hoe and dump truck were being parked right in front of us. The management didn't care about the noise or disruption and didn't do much to make any amends. It is a county project the campground had no control over, but they should have notifed all the visitors of the issue. If you have an oceanfront site between now and the end of May, beware! The whole road is being dug up for construction. Don't expect to learn about it from Ocean Lakes. We will never stay there again.

There were major upgrades last year. All the roads were paved, more gravel added at the sites and 50 amp power was added to some sites. We had E024 which was located in the woods in a pet loop. Many inconsiderate dog owners allowed their dogs to bark non-stop, but we were told that happens on holiday weekends. Lots of fireworks used which is strange, considering fireworks are illegal in New York State and we were in a state park! Not good when you have a firework sensitive dog. My husband said the showers were wonderful and very clean. The view of the lake is relaxing, even if there are only boulders and no beach. Lots of mowed paths to walk on in the woods. Kind of like a maze, you're glad when you find your way out! We already have reserved a site with a view of Lake Ontario in August. The non-dog loops look fabulous, but you can't walk your dog through there to look at potential sites. Even with those drawbacks, we'll go back on a regular basis.

We stayed in a pull through section of this campground. The concrete patio was very nice, but the sites are close together, and there were no trees in the campsite area. Normally this might be okay, but this weekend had temps in the mid to high 90's, and it felt like we were camping in a parking lot. A very nice nature trail hike along a trout stream provided some relief from the heat. The camp store is well stocked and has great ice cream. The newspapers are only available for sale in the store, which doesn't open until 9 a.m. It would be nice to be able to get a paper out of a news stand at an earlier hour. A breakfast buffet was listed on the website as being available on Saturday and Sunday, but was only served on Sunday. "Cable" is satellite and based out of New York city, so no local news is available. Internet usage is limited to 60 minutes at a time, and you must have a different access code for every session, and the coupons are only available from the office. The coupons were given upon check in, and you could get more. The internet was very slow and subject to weather because it is satellite also. You can check email, but it was frustratingly slow. A new big rig area is being built and looks like it will be nice, but again, not too many trees or shade. We will probably stay here again.

Nice state park. But no water hookups, so bring a full fresh water tank. We were in Loop 700, one of the newer loops, so it was easier to get a big rig in. The camp store is not well stocked and very expensive. Lots of trees cut down and wood left for you to burn in the fire ring.

This campground is beautiful. Sites are roomy, but some are uneven. There is a sewer dump service that drives around every day if you need your tanks dumped. We were there during the Rolex 3 day event for the horse park and it filled up quickly. If you like horses, this is the place to camp. You can walk to the back entrance of the Kentucky Horse Park. Strongly recommend.

Park does not like dogs. They are allowed to only walk to and from the dog walk area, not around the campground on the roads. However, "quiet time" has no meaning to management. Many loud, drunken parties went on far past 11 p.m. Several seasonals should be condemned for human use. Then add the "junk yard" feel with two old milk tankers and an old fire truck accessory sitting roadside in the middle of the park. We will not visit again.
