This campground is a mile off Hwy 395 / Toms Place exit, at elevation of 7000 ft, if you have breathing issues. Verizon cell reception here. There are beautiful sites along the creek, but don't expect to drive into those sites without reservations! This campground is narrow one way in/out. Most of the sites accommodate smaller RVs but with placement of large boulders along road, it requires multiple difficult maneuvers to back in to keep from being lodged on top of the boulders, we stayed in one of the few sites that a 37 ft RV can fit. Be aware of low hanging branches as we damaged our fixed satellite. The current (recommend highly) campground hosts did an excellent job of maintaining the out of control weekender party goers, as well as park maintenance. Lots of trees.
Very high elevation, should you be troubled with breathing issues (9000 ft). Park is very tight and sites are close together. One way in road can cause traffic back up. Sites down in valley near creek are pretty with trees, however sites away from creek are not as level and the majority are in full sun. Park indicates dump available, but it is a drive back downhill towards French Camp where you empty tanks and can refill water. No cell coverage, minimal coverage back down hill/lower elevation. Otherwise nice scenery.
Nice, beautiful scenery of Mt. Whitney and Owens Valley. Verizon cell reception 3 plus bars (if you have data plan, internet here as well) at elevation of 5000 ft. Spacious campsites. Dry camping, relaxing sounds of nearby creek. We will stay again!
Be aware, Rules at this campground ARE NOT enforced as stated in the park handouts! Quiet hours are not enforced. Too bad pet owners DO NOT pick up after their animals, leaving poop behind on sites. There should be a limit to number of animals per site just like number of people per site (4 large barking dogs per site is absurd). People are so rude and inconsiderate, truly amazing, it can ruin your entire trip. Sites are close. Normally a nice park, but weekend visitors are out of control and think they are only ones around!
