As far as state parks I've been to just a few and I have to think this is among the better ones. Security was very good. The site was very large and fairly level. The only problems I had were no grass or gravel (bring plenty of outside floor mats), and the trash dumpsters were located too far away. There are grocery stores close by and Savannah is also close by. I would warn people about gnats in this location..certain times of the years it is unbearable..bring plenty of Skin So Soft, the only thing that seems to work. We were not affected by the gnats.
The best resort we stayed at during our almost 2 month adventure. It had everything but mature vegetation. I had thought this resort only to be 1 to 2 years old. I was wrong...working on 10 years. It's that well maintained. The resort did have a few seasonals located there but, again, well maintained. The sites were also large, offsetting and level. Security was good and had staff take you to your site when you arrived. There was a store with gifts and some essential items. The grocery store was minutes away and the surrounding towns were close too.The only drawback was could use more shade.
A lovely resort. The sites were large, shaded and fairly level. We were about 100 yards from the water. There is a pier and boat launch side by side for registered campers to use plus a beachfront at another spot close by. There is a store also on site that met our needs. This resort had several seasonals located here. The only bad complaint I have was it was so far removed far everywhere. If you like low-keyed and private environment this place is for you.
Accommodating owner. Lovely, well maintained campground. The sites were shaded, fairly level, and descent size. There were no seasonal residents. It also had a store with limited supplies. This campground was very close to the northern entry to the Skyline Dr. as was the town of Front Royal. Washington DC was 70 miles away. Only drawback was campground allowed non-campers use of pool for a fee. Slow time of year. Beware if you use map quest directions they are confusing. Stay on 340s as it turns into Stonewall Jackson Hwy.
A very beautiful campground. We were located above the rock quarry with a view of the sound. Very close to the national park as well as Bar Harbor. We had a large site which was fairly level and shaded. The grocery store was close by. I would have rated this place higher but I had some concerns. First you had to pay extra for hot water for your showers and for dumping. I thought the high rate should have covered that. I was told everyone in the area charges the same. Be prepared. Second concern was for security. Our site was about 20ft from a neighborhood road. There should have been a fence separating us.
Very accommodating owner, easy access to grocery store and interstate. They also had a store that could meet your basic needs as well as a grill/kitchen. There were several seasonal people on site, that wasn't a drawback. They were very friendly as well as helpful. It was like a small community. It was Memorial Day weekend and there were a lot of primitive campers so the owners put us with the seasonal folks. Some of the sites were not completely level...you can make them work. The sites were also large and shady. I would stay again.
A very nice park. The sound on one side as well as the Atlantic on the other. The sites were level with a concrete slab, fire ring, and table. There were some sites that had sewer hookup. The only drawback was not much shade. We drove around the communities on the east part of island and had the best clam chowder in our 2 month search of it. Greenport! Take the ferry at Orient to Ct. and bypass NYC.
We stayed for three days. There was a lot of construction going on but away from the campgrounds that were opened. The sites were fairly leveled and had little shade. There was only one bath house functional. We took the time to visit the lodge as well the golf course. The lodge was beautiful with a very nice view of the lake. The golf course suffered tree losses but was open. This no doubt will be a little jewel in the future.
Our second leg was great. What a pristine campground. The staff all were helpful and friendly. This area, beaches and seafood is Florida's best kept secret. This campground is ideally located for visits to beaches in either direction. I personally liked the the national seashore to the west but the beautiful waters to the east will open your eyes.
Beautiful large sites that were level ,shaded and private as well. Well maintained campground. This campground had some seasonal units there but everything was so clean and put away. Nice young couple that own the place, very accommodating.
I might not have the right to comment on this park because I only stayed one night. I had to depart early and was refunded. I didn't ask. Beautiful park with better yet great owner. Thanks again! Will be back.
This was our first leg of a two month traveling vacation. We were pleasantly surprised at this site. This place is nothing fancy but the people running the show were helpful and friendly. This park had a lot of seasonal units there but all was well maintained. The best about this area was a restaurant a couple miles down the road, across the street from either a county or state park. We thought it was a hot dog stand or grill/bar. This place had the best fried oysters on our voyage. Be prepare...it is a BYOB establishment.
