We first came to Illinois Beach in June, then returned in July and again in August. We're going back in September as well. There are lots of shaded sites, some very close to the beach on Lake Michigan. There is a nice walkway along the beach and a big beach area. Lots of trees and vegetation - many deer, squirrels etc. The sites are big so you don't feel cramped. The town of Zion is close and grocery stores are just around the corner as well as a METRA train stop which can take you into Chicago in a little over an hour. It's also conveniently located close to the Great Lakes Naval Training Center and the VA medical facility. The town of Zion also has a "Beeline" trolley which you can board at the camp gate and ride to many different stops all over the town of Zion.

Just opened the last of April, we spent five days at the end of May. We had a lovely shaded site. Nice views, large site, well laid out. Marvelously updated from an old CoE park. Gate closes at 11 p.m.. We went out one night and got locked out, had to walk in to our site. Will certainly return.

Our first experience with this park was at registration. We expected a nightly rate of $19, but had to pay an additional $5 just for registering, then a whopping $8 a day for the entrance fee. Since we had only planned for a two-night stay - this totaled at over $30 a night for a spot with no water or sewer at site. There is only one water fill location per campground loop. The dumpsters are located at the front of the park outside the campground gate. The park is surprisingly clean considering the dumpsters are located so far away. The sites are very private and lots of trees and vegetation abound. The electric boxes can be quite far away from your site. We have a 25 foot electric cord and had to use an extension. We saw some sites which would have been impossible even with our extension.
