We loved this campground. As lifelong Laura Ingalls Wilder fans, staying here is a powerful experience. It is absolutely beautiful. Bunkhouse is an old house or school. Very nice and spacious for the price. Bathrooms were clean. This is a small campground. There were only about six other families camping here. In addition to camping, the fee to explore the historic site is $10 per person, but this is good for your entire stay. They have Ma's house a barn where you go to look for the kittens, pony rides, a wagon ride, and other activities for kids. The town of De Smet is close by where there is a swimming pool. $1 for kids and $2 for adults.
We liked this park. Everything is clean, and the staff are friendly. They have a lot of activities for children. They have a swimming beach, bike rentals, storybook land, zoo, and more. On the 4th of July we were able to watch the fireworks from our site and listen to a marching band. We had two major complaints. First of all, this campground is extremely crowded. Sites are very close together. Secondly, despite a rule allowing no more than two cars per site, many sites seemed to have a lot more and, on July 4th, both sides of the roads in campground were filled with cars. Rules are not enforced. So this is a nice, clean campground with amazing activities for children, but do not come here if you want peace and quiet.
