As Texas residents, we have been coming to this park for years. Alligators are abundant on the walking/biking paths but not in the campground, so be very aware of surroundings when on the trails including the paved ones. Snakes, too. Copperheads and other poisonous snakes are abundant in the campground as well as the trails. It is hot and humid in the summer, lots of mosquitoes. But we like this park because the sites are mostly large and private. There are tons of birds and other wildlife. Fishing from piers (no wading!). A playground for kids plus biking, fishing, and the Observatory has stargazing programs. Not sure about the cable because we don't watch TV, but the only place WiFi works is near the office. AT&T phone service has been good when we were here. We always enjoy the Texas State Parks. My only gripe is there are no recycling facilities so we end up having to take several bags of cans, bottles, etc., out with us and recycle them somewhere. I hope this will change soon. We are also hoping to see more solar power in the parks as we have seen in Europe.

Beautiful state park with nice, private sites. Plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the stars. Park was full when we were here but very quiet. It is a short walk to the river which is very scenic and has lovely walking trails and a day use area with picnic sites and restroom station. We were here in late fall so we did not see any tubing on the river, just a few kayaks. Water was cold!

We love this park! It is no longer a Texas State Park, but it feels like one, and the price is comparable to other state parks, but no Texas Parks pass discount is available. Most sites are very spacious & private, level, and easy to park. Park itself is very scenic with beautiful old oak trees, and many sites are waterfront or waterview. Saw 3 alligators (from a distance!), 2 big turtles, tons of barred owls, cardinals, deer, and bunnies. Fishing and bike riding are popular with campers of all ages. Nice little playground. No swimming due to alligators, but lots of sites had kiddie pools out for little ones, and we saw quite a few personal watercraft out in the lake. Restrooms looked nice and clean, but we did not use them. Friendly hosts and staff. Good security presence. AT&T phones worked fine at our site. We did not watch TV or try to use WiFi. Quiet, clean, beautiful park and a good value, too.
