Expensive and exclusive site with entirely privately owned pitches, some of which are rented out by their owners. Very smart and well maintained with concrete pitches. Being privately owned the pitches were generally very well cared for, many with manicured gardens. Not proper camping really but very comfortable and a lovely pool. Felt like we had to be on our best behaviour! Stunning location next to the lake. Only irritation was lack of Wi-Fi.
A very organized and well appointed campground about an hour's drive from the south rim. The pitches were a little bland but plenty of space. Excellent shower rooms and a good indoor swimming pool. Very friendly staff. However, a lot of freeway and train noise so earplugs needed.
This was the second campground of 6 which I had booked in advance for our 2 week marathon and was the one I had most concerns about before we got there given some of the reviews. However, all told it was fine and a great base from which to explore Yosemite. It would have been nice to stay in the valley but I wasn't quick enough to get a site there. On the plus side, we had full hook-ups for the 3 nights we spent there which we wouldn't have had in the valley. The facilities were fine with clean and hot showers and sizeable pitches. It is true that the public part of the site is across the road from the main body and there are no pull-throughs but it was quiet and really not a problem. Main issues were that the Wi-Fi was only available down in a 'lodge' by the reception and the reception staff could have been a little friendlier although they were helpful when asked about things. The river was nice, but not for swimming.
We were RV 'virgins', this being our first excursion in a 33' foot motorhome. So we approached our first campground with trepidation wondering if it would be as advertised and whether we could master these mysterious rituals called 'hook-ups'. To cut a lengthy story short, it was easy and we loved the site. Maybe there was an element of rose tinting in our spectacles, given that anything other than outright disaster was going to seem like a triumph, but having subsequently visited another 5 campgrounds over the next 2 weeks/2000 miles, we are confident in declaring it one of the better ones. Big pitches, lots of shade, full hook-ups with excellent Wi-Fi, a good pool and friendly staff. Yes the shower blocks could do with some updating but they were clean and the water was hot so it didn't bother us. One slight gripe was that it wasn't very busy when we were there and yet a new arrival (with baby and dog) was wedged in next to us. Couldn't understand that, but fortunately they were very pleasant and conscious of not making too much noise.
