Once again, this is a state park, not a private one, so the rating is based on that. Sites by the ocean are smaller than those in the woods (deep woods, so no satellite possible). Big rigs will have a challenge in the wooded area. Bath houses should be updated, but they were clean and sufficient. We were there just after heavy rain, and the sites closest to the ocean were very, very wet, even underwater - ours was 'lake front' for the first 2 days! The beach is fabulous! The setting is beautiful and we loved the park. Biggest negative - the roads were too narrow in some spots for a big rig to safely navigate. Our site had to be entered 'against the flow' of a one way street - and many of the sites were not clearly defined. SC State Parks love their trees, and sometimes have a few too many in the way of RV safety. Another problem is the reality that beach erosion is taking its toll on the campsites closest to the water. Biggest positive - the setting. Also impressed with the staff and the size of camp store. It had some of everything and wasn't absurdly expensive. We've already made reservations for 2 more visits.

This is a tired campground. Some of the paved sites were uneven and the macadam was broken. Almost all sites are pull thru and long enough for big rigs. Small bathhouses, but stainless steel and very, very clean. Small, old fashioned and very tired putt putt course and other recreational facilities were also long in the tooth. Very friendly owners who lived on site, extremely helpful from the time they escorted us to our site until we left. Nice pool but it is open to area residents so got a bit crowded in 100+' heat. Camped with a club. We were given free use of the open air pavilion for our breakfast and dinner gatherings. When the owner realized it would be too hot for this, he gave us, free of charge, the use of his air conditioned hall with full kitchen, 2 full bathrooms and seating for feeding over 50 people! Free of charge for the entire weekend! That's way above the call of duty! As far as road noise - I'm a very light sleeper and did not have any problems at all with I-95 noise. We were towards the back of the campground, but we realized that it parallels the highway - didn't go back away from it! Some old, dumpy permanent rigs were present, and the place needs a lot of work, but the owners were so thoughtful towards our group that we all said we would return. Rates were lower than most places in the vicinity and it would work well as an overnight stop along the interstate. Wish I could rate it higher, but the facilities don't warrant it. The owners, however, get a full '10'!!

Unlike previous posting, we found staff and management to be very friendly and helpful. Had to leave our rig unexpectedly in storage for a week (bad tire on our tow vehicle) and were not charged a penny! Saw absolutely no evidence of sewage runoff, etc. and the place was spotless. There was no rain for quite a while and the roads were not paved, but did not suffer from extra dust. Just normal when it never seems to rain! Bathrooms were cleaned several times a day and separate shower areas were immaculate. Sites are mostly level, but some could be a bit wider. Very hot while we were there and the pool was clean and inviting. WiFi was not free, but a very nominal fee ($4 for three days!) kept us in touch the entire weekend. We had no trouble with reception. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would return.

Very friendly, exceptionally clean campground. A storm came up while we were away from the campground and we came back to find our awning dropped safely and our belongings placed under it! Neighbors said staff went around the campground warning of approaching storm and took care of our rig. Rate is for family of 4. Extras $3 to $5 each. Long concrete pads and nice thick grass for each site. Fire ring, grill and table as well. Reasonable spacing between sites. Bathhouses were very clean, individual rooms, but too few for a campground this large. Those needing these facilities best make specific site requests near the pool area. Separate tenting area with their own bathhouse. Excellent drainage in case of rain. Most sites are wide open with little/no shade but a few are in wooded area. Cabins/cottages/yurts also available. Pool area is in full sun with 2 pools and a water play area that is very creative and fun for the whole family. Numerous planned activities every weekend - included gem mining and fun with Yogi and Cindy Bear. Well stocked store. Conveniently located near supermarket (less than a mile away). Stocked fishing lakes (mostly catch and release) and many caught fish the weekend we were there. Would recommend this campground for all.

Rating based on what it is, a state park. Wow! Paved roads and paved sites - long enough for the biggest rig with room to spare! Camped here with a group of about 15 families. Loved it! Bathhouses were clean with plenty of hot water for showers. Lake full of fish (even if our group couldn't catch anything but a cold!). Fishing license required that could be purchased at the ranger station. Rangers were friendly and available throughout the weekend. Gate was locked early but registered campers given the combination upon registration so no problem there. Dump station was large and easy to access (unlike some other state parks in SC). No playground for kids but that was no problem - plenty for them to do! Great place for rollerblading, bike riding, scooters, etc. and the lake - it's beautiful and big. Several places to easily launch a boat and some tied them up to areas right in front of their lakefront sites! Only negative - and it's not the park's fault - TV reception was lousy! Those who had dish said no problem for them, which surprised as the campground is heavily wooded. Have already made reservations to return ASAP. A beautiful park. Make sure you bring everything you need - closest groceries are more than 10 miles away. You really are in the woods!

Maybe because it was crowded with Halloween campers and not enough help, but the campground wasn't well kept at all. Perhaps too many kids with parents who didn't watch them, but bath house was at best untidy each time I needed to use it. Don't expect the floors to be spotless, but over the span of an entire day nothing was done to clean them up after kids emptied the paper towel racks all over the place and most of the T paper was strewn all over as well. Told campground worker twice and it was still that way 5 hours later. Not impressed at all. Interior roads a mess (not paved) but it had rained hard the day before, so probably not their fault. Biggest pet peeve was the presence of several different dogs, not leashed, running free in the campground. Rules state all dogs must be leashed at all times, but apparently some got loose. Seemed to take too long to 'round them up'. One person said one of the dogs belonged to a home near the campground. Guess little can be done about that, but what about the others? Nice Halloween activities for the kids. There must have been hundreds of them for the costume parade that went all through the park. Wish someone had told me to bring candy when I made the reservation!! Many seasonals seemed to enjoy themselves and most campers appeared to be having a good time. Loud dance one night that most seemed to enjoy. Quiet hours didn't seem to be a concern - at least until after 1 AM when things seemed to settle down. Rules said all under 16 had to be at campsites by 10PM -apparently not well enforced! We had a group of unsupervised young teens right near our site until after midnight - no real problems, just kids being kids, but they were kind of loud. A guy went by in a golf cart around 10:30 and told them to go back to their sites but we didn't see him again and they all came back as soon as he drove away! Not a bad campground but a bit overpriced for what was available (the large pool was of no value in October!). Probably won't go back.

This is a very good state park. Way more than 'no frills', but, of course, not like one of those 'RV Resorts'! The access roads were dirt but firm. There was adequate room to maneuver even a large rig. The sites were wooded, stoned and relatively level- large enough to enjoy some privacy and still not feel isolated. About half are lake front, the others shared a view of the lake. We were on a lake front site and the view was fabulous, as was the fishing (Don't know for sure, but my DH thought the lake was probably stocked). Rangers were friendly and helpful. Very family friendly, yet no playground for kids. The lake was the biggest recreational attraction. Bathhouses were clean and adequate in size. We went with a camping group and there was plenty of room for all to enjoy the campfire. Rating reflects the quality of the campground for the kind that it is. Not fancy, 'just a state park' but South Carolina knows how to do state park camping!

Great for what it is. We used it as an overnight stop on way to Florida. Don't know why others had problems with trees - can't see why it would happen. Paved roads made movement in campground easy. Many, many pull-throughs long enough so we didn't even have to unhook - great for an overnight stop. Plenty of room for our slideout. The comfort stations were very clean, room to change in the shower areas and plenty of hot water while we were there - and they even supply small bars of soap in the showers!! Campground is gated ($5 refunded deposit for gate key) and there is active security during the night. Campers have access to all facilities, including a big indoor pool at the main registration building - nice when traveling with kids in a car for almost 10 hours! Several different levels of restaurants available from a tacky diner (still in the 1950's - food was lousy there!), a decent sit down place and even a steak house. Wouldn't go out of my way for any of them, but good enough for a traveler who is hungry and doesn't want to cook! All in all, good deal for the money. Would definitely stay there again.

This is a state park, and for what it is it was great. No fancy frills, just inexpensive camping for families. The campground is definitely not big rig friendly! The roads are narrow and 'natural' (meaning many trees along the way). They are not paved, and neither are the sites. Some are more level than others, some are wider than others. Use the site listed above, click on 'maps' and then the tree symbolizing the campground for detailed info. No playground for kids, but great fun for them with the lake (canoes and john boats for rent very reasonably). Rangers were friendly and helpful. Campground host cleaned the bathhouse as needed. Large showers with great water pressure and lots of hot water. The lake was stocked with fish and the geese were migrating!! No sewer sites but easy to access dump site as you leave the campground. Only about 1/2 the sites have 30 amp electricity - others are water only. Some of those have designated tent 'pads'. Again, great for a weekend getaway - short term stay to just slow down and enjoy the beauty of the bright stars at night.

This campground is now closed - sold for development. Too bad too - it was the only half way decent campground in the Toms River area.

This campground is huge - as in too big for us to enjoy. Most sites are just big enough for larger rigs to fit into snugly. The ocean front area is hot as hades (no shade at all) but there is some shade back from the ocean. The bathhouses are HOT and they are kept as clean as they can be kept with so many campers using them 24/7. The golf carts are very expensive (like they are almost everywhere) and too many kids drive them like they are drag racing!! It can really be dangerous if you have little ones and are camping near the ocean front. There is a Christian atmosphere here from the moment you see the sign at the entrance, always quoting scripture. Not a problem most of the time, but their strong enforcement of the alcohol policy is a bit too much. Every campground has rules about keeping your beverage on site, and no loud, abusive, drunken behavior, and I'm all for that. But this campground doesn't even let you have a cocktail 'exposed' while sitting in a chair under your awning! We were told we had to 'cover' our glasses or go inside. When we asked about this at the office we were told 'that is our policy and we enforce it strongly'. We complied, of course, but I really don't like drinking out of a plastic cup! I could understand if we were loud or doing something to be noticed, but we were really just sitting, talking to each other, not bothering anyone! The real problem with this campground is the size. It's just too big - like many of those in MB, particularly those on the ocean.

This is a wonderful campground. It was very clean, and I agree that the pledge signed by pet owners must make a difference, as well as the presence of a specified dog run. The sites, particularly those in the rear of the campground, were spacious and level, many having cement pads. The staff was very friendly and most helpful. The bathhouses were cleaned often and kept in excellent condition. The pool, a bit small for the size of the campground, is way in the front by the highway - a bit away for many. Only real complaint was that the Wi-Fi that is available is a bit costly and was not operating the weekend we were there. Not the campground's fault, but it did prove to be a real inconvenience for us as my husband had brought work with him that required the use of the internet. We had to cut our visit a day short as a result. There is a very nice designated tenting area with large shade trees, and enough shade in the rest of the campground so if you wanted a shaded site it would probably be available. The traffic on Rt. 17 can be terrible here so do all you can to avoid arriving anywhere near rush hour!! Saw someone else recommend Gilligans as a good local spot to eat. Went there and was very unimpressed. The place wasn't very clean (maybe because it was packed) and the service was awful! Food wasn't all that good either! The campground was terrific however and we already made reservations to return.

Nice family campground. Negatives: sites not really level. Cable TV is a joke with only about 15 channels) and mediocre picture, at best. Some interior roads are narrow, too narrow for big rigs. Confusing entry sign - we turned up the wrong road and others we spoke to said they did the same. Positives: Very friendly staff, helpful in every way. Clean, updated bathhouses. Sites were relatively large by area comparisons and spacing between sites was good. Most had good shade, particularly those in the back part of the campground. Good, updated playgrounds. Very clean pool. Camp store was well stocked. Campground has good location with everything you could need within 3 miles (groceries, liquor store, etc.). Close to the ocean beaches. Nice area for a family to vacation. Seasonals were friendly too! Would definitely camp here again.
