This is a nice and clean campground located only 13 minutes from Cobourg's famous beach. Plenty of activities on weekends for kids. Some sites at this campground have odd configurations. The lot we had was face to face with another site. Although we were somewhat offset, we could have stared at each other. Not quite the level of privacy we enjoy in a campground. The grounds were well maintained with garbage bins and recycling available. The lots were fairly level. They accept the Good Sam discount card. Stayed here for 1 week. Weekends were busy with plenty of things for kids to do.
We camped here for 5 days in mid July. The campground quickly filled by the weekend. The grounds are exceptionally well maintained. As each camper would leave, a crew would show up to empty the fire ring and pick up any trash left behind. The campground features some premium sites that feature upgraded landscape and patio furniture. I wasn't sure it was worth the extra fees, so I settled for a regular full service site. Lots are a good size. The camping Kabins are richly landscaped with bushes and flowers. They obviously spend a few dollars on landscaping in many areas. I found the pool to be well maintained but small for a campground that size. They sure could use a larger pool to accommodate more people. There is a limit of 40 people in and around the pool. Kids quickly take over and leave little room for adults. It was still nice to see the kids having fun. There are many planned activities for the kids. From movie nights with free popcorn, drive-by hay rides with water guns, free ice cream, hot dog feasts, etc. This campground is great for families with kids. WiFi is free with good coverage in most parts of the campground. Every morning, a free copy of the local newspaper is delivered to your door. Firewood is available but seemed to be made up mostly of construction cut-offs. For boaters, there are plenty of boat launches in the vicinity. The week we were here, they were building an outside gym. Never got to see it finished. At the entrance of the campground is a nice and safe bicycle path that goes on for miles. The village of Ivy Lea is a beautiful lake-side community featuring well kept homes with lush landscaping. In closing, I found the price way too high, but perhaps worth it for families with kids. I will certainly return to this campground.
We visited this Provincial park in May. It was still too cool for the beach. The campground features many shaded camp sites as well as those that are more exposed. Like most Ontario Provincial parks, there are no full hookup sites. The centrally located dump station offers easy access. The campground is located along Lake St Francis where there is lots of fishing. The premises were clean and well maintained. Since it was early in the season, we were practically the only ones there. That was great. The bicycle path just outside the campground takes you out to some very picturesque areas. We have come to this campground several times and enjoy each visit.
Despite a small issue described later, we felt that this was a great campground. The grounds were clean and the staff was friendly. There is a nice pool with a play area for kids that seemed well maintained. The bathrooms were impeccable. The campground features mostly shaded sites by large mature trees. We hiked our way to the Ausable River to find a gorgeous view of the river. Many kids were cliff diving into the water. Didn't seem safe to us, but the kids were sure having a great time. Our ONLY real disappointment is that we were located near an area of the campground that was being upgraded. For the entire weekend, we had to hear and smell the diesel fueled tractor dig trenches. What could have been a peaceful sojourn ended up being nerve wracking. Upon our return, we sent an e-mail to the owners to complain that they should at least perform these activities either pre-season or during the week. They were very apologetic and compensated us for our troubles. Nevertheless, we recommend this campground and would return.
Despite the high Woodall ratings, this campground was a real disappointment. The campground seemed mostly un-kept. Not that they can control this, but there were goose droppings everywhere. And not just a bit of it. You had to watch where you stepped. The beach was closed due to the amount of Canada Goose and bird droppings everywhere. This camp ground is extremely windy. You cannot leave your awnings opened unattended. There are warning sheets when you register. The wind gets up very fast. To avoid the wind, we would shelter ourselves on the other side of the motor home, only to be greeted by swarms of mayflies attached to the motor home hanging on for dear life. We had a premium lake side site, which provided a beautiful view. But the sites in the middle of the island are horrible. No trees. The pool was nice. The club houses were closed. Wifi was virtually non functional from where we were. This campground is tired.
