First time to New York we went to the next closest campground 1-1/2 hours away and thought to travel in by train because the cost of this place was a bit high. Big mistake! It would have taken us hours and a lot more money to come by train. We ended up coming to Liberty Harbor the next day and we were so glad we did! It truly was easy to find, lots of space and easy to park, and we could walk to the train station that took us to to New York and we did our tourist thing all day and came back at night. Since we spent little time at the park, it mattered not that it was shaded and fancy. It was quiet at night and safe and though it didn't have sewer hookup, we were able to go 4 days before dumping (we have 2 kids) which we did on the way out. This is because we were gone so much! So for the purpose of seeing New York for the lowest cost and maximize your time, this place is perfect. We noticed that there were a lot of high rises going up and the neighborhood has changed so that it is not scary or high crime location as it may have been in the past. We were not concerned with walking from the train station (or taking the ferry) at night at all.
This is the only RV park within the Philadelphia city limits. It's basically a parking lot for cars and buses traveling to the local hospital but they have full hookup for RVs so it was perfect for us tourists to get to our venues close by. They even have a free bus that will take us to the closest subway or bus transit system to travel about since parking and driving can be difficult in the city. Saved us a lot of time driving into the city from an RV park outside the city limits. Many RVers use this site when visiting family in the hospital for longer stays. It's not meant to be a fancy resort with pool and park, but for its purpose, it was great since we were only there at night for sleeping. The staff is very casual and friendly and worked with us to help us get situated and around town. Highly recommend if you're not going to be spending much time at the RV park but out and about. Great security there too so no worries about leaving the RV while gone.
