This is a nice resort with lots of activities for the kids. Our sites were on top of the mountain and very well shaded (not level, but well shaded) - the pool, waterslide, playground, etc. were at the bottom of the hill where it was much warmer - giving us perfect weather for swimming and then a perfect, shaded retreat back at the camper. One of the girls working the front desk didn't seem to know what she was doing ... she answered our questions without really knowing the answers which caused confusion for us (and other customers checking in). This resort is close to Luray Caverns and Skyline Drive so kept us busy.
This campground was awesome! Our family rented a house in the outer banks, but we wanted to have a little getaway, and chose to camp for the week instead. The owners of this place are very friendly and have strict rules (about the lawn and trees) but nothing extreme. The sites are just over the dunes, with easy access to the ocean, and there was plenty of space on the beach for all of the campground visitors. They also offer a pool which was clean and not crowded. The sites were good size and adequately spaced apart, plus we had a few trees to add privacy (and shade!). We were 25-30 minutes from Jockey's Ridge, etc. allowing us to do the touristy stuff if we wanted but escape to the quiet of our campground when needed to. Would definitely recommend Ocean Waves, and plan to return each year.
Nice resort with lots of activities. We had a waterview site which kept us nice and cool in the mid-July weather and we could watch the sunset from our site. The sites are very close to each other - quite a few people struggled to back in and get set up between the trees. The trees offered nice shade though so it's a toss up. The adult swimming pool was clean and not very crowded - and they also offer crabbing, putt-putt, children's pool and bike, paddle boat, etc. rentals. Nice place, will definitely return.
As always - this is a nice, clean VA state park. The sites were good size, easy to setup, and adequately spread from nearby sites. We liked this park but found there wasn't much to do. There were 2 miles of biking/hiking trails but the bugs were horrible. They have kayaks and canoes for rent and use on the lake. The park is beautiful (I've heard lots of people speak about weddings they've attended there). Don't think we'll return - not because of the conditions, but because of the lack of activities.
This resort is beautiful. We reserved at the last minute for Memorial Day, with a group, and were lucky someone had cancelled for 2 side-by-side sights. The resort personnel were great ... they warned us our sites weren't the best but we were more than happy with the setup. There were lots of activities - boat rentals, fishing, beach swimming, etc. to keep everyone busy (2 year old - college couple - 30 somethings) and the view from the lake was beautiful! The bathrooms/showers left little to be desired ... maybe just needed another cleaning each day? We would definitely return to this resort ... it had something for everyone!
Nice state park - VERY quiet ... there were only 2 or 3 other campers (online reservations said full???). Nice sites throughout but loop A are the newer, roomier sites. There wasn't much to do here - 9 miles of biking trails that we finished in an afternoon, plus the mansion which wasn't very exciting (to us). Probably won't return - not because of the conditions, just because of the lack of activities.
Sites were good size, easy to setup, and divided by trees/shrubbery for privacy. Easy access to the Chesapeake Bay beach area - just over the dunes. We were here in mid-April and the water was actually warm enough to go in! The bathrooms were clean - though we didn't use them much so can't speak for the showers, etc. Reserved online so quick check-in, easy access dump station, nice camp host. Nice, quiet, family park.
