After much wait, this was trip number 3 with our popup. We found the campground to be pretty well kept. We were just about the only campers there the whole week. This would normally alarm me, but it was early in the season. I think the campground was great. The pool was fine. We did not fish in the pond. The hiking trails in the campground were disappointing. The "stream" is more of a ditch, but it was nice to see the water steady flowing and babbling in it. The name Adventure Village could be misleading. The showers were not spectacular, but they were clean and served their purpose. We never saw the owner who we booked the site with, but he was always a phone call away if we needed something. There was an employee there during the day keeping things tidy. We had Wi-Fi access that worked fine. In a nutshell, don't go to this place if you are looking for "Adventure". This place is just fine if you need somewhere to camp as it was wonderful for that. Get out and do your adventuring around the area. I recommend DuPont State Forest and the waterfalls there. We would stay here again.

This was my first experience since I was a child camping with a camper in a campground, so I consider myself new to this. All in all, we enjoyed our visit. The outside edges of some sites along the roads in the park were muddy, but the sites were fine, considering there had been a lot of rain. The sites were pretty small, however we lucked out and got a site near some trees, so we could not be crowded by another camper. However, I had to pull straight into the site, unhook, pull up, then back out of the site to avoid having to have the back of another camper with there septic line as our "front porch view". Another couple that went with us got double booked, so they had to share a site with another pop up. You could literally stand between their two campers and touch each with out having to reach far. That is just too close ! The next day he helped the man push his camper out so he would not have to break down everything. So, this was a negative about the place. The showers were fine, and the water was nice and hot. The bathrooms were littered with toilet paper and paper towels. A man came in to empty the trash, but the toilets were never cleaned or trash picked up in them. This was the Mens' restroom, and most of my species are probably messy anyway, so I guess this should be expected ?!?? My wife said the Ladie's restroom was fine. The stream was very nice and I caught one trout. The staff was fairly helpful. I did talk with one employee on the phone prior to the trip who was unprofessional but she got me what I needed. The campground was running a special with sites at $ 19.99 a night, so that was a plus ! In a nutshell, this was a good place, and I would go back, because I can deal with the little things that were not nice. If you want a perfect place, don't go here. If you are not picky this place will be just fine.

Well, this was trip number 2 with our popup. We read the reviews on here before we went, and found the campground to be nice just like the reviews said it was. There were only minor things that could have been better. These were: The sites are not level, so bring some blocks of wood, etc.. There are no sewer hook ups. $5.00 fee per night, per pet. The firewood for sale was kind of damp, and some was rotten, but we got it to burn. The good points were as follows: The camp sites in "Loop A " where we stayed were surrounded by beautiful hardwood trees. Each site has a picnic table, fire ring w/ swing out to the side grill, lantern post, water, electricity, and tent pad. The showers were each in their own private little rooms. The camp hosts were friendly and helpful. There is a nice long beach to walk on the James River. The plantation houses and farm were nice to walk around and check out. This place is close to the Jamestown Ferry. We got their around mid-day on a Friday in November and set up. There were campers there, but no one was around. I actually got set up and sat by the fire and enjoyed an hour or two of absolute peace and quietness until people started showing up in the later afternoon. If you went in the middle of the week during the fall or winter, it would be quiet like a ghost town. I would love to go back during a time like that! We will be going back to this campground.
