Incredible views, lots of hiking trails, and close to Old Tucson and Desert Museum. Take the Gates Pass Rd (not for RVs) and you are back in Tucson quickly. Water and sewer hookups are not that important given a seven day limit, we had plenty of water and grey/black storage left when the week was up. The staff does an excellent job of assigning sites based on size, not allowing small campers to tie up the larger sites. I wish more public campgrounds did this. We would have liked to stay longer than the seven days, but will have to settle for another week next year.

We were here for the month of March. The nightly rate reflects our month plus electricity. We looked at over 20 parks in and around Phoenix before deciding on this one. The remote location is nicely balanced by the space and views. The pool problem is solved, and the pool and spa (although indoor) were convenient and clean. The park is located conveniently close to shopping, Lake Pleasant, and the Ben Avery shooting range. There are also about 3 miles of walking trails in the desert behind the park (watch for snakes). This place will be our choice again next year for Spring Training, and maybe even longer.

The main attraction here is the giant swimming pool. All sites have water and about half have 50 amp and cable TV, the other half have just 30 amp. Sites are fairly well spaced, but open with mostly dry grass between them. A 45 minute trip to Fort Davis, a very interesting day trip. Verizon voice and internet, and ATT voice all worked well.

This park is absolutely beautiful. Very secluded sites with 30 amp electric and water. Verizon voice and internet was weak, ATT voice was OK. Tons of hiking trails, a river to swim and fish in, and wildlife everywhere. Turkey, deer, and armadillo walking through our site as we sat here. Very friendly and informative staff. This will be one of our top picks when looking for a quiet and pretty place to stay in Texas.

Nice state park campground with electric and water. Small number with sewer also. Small trees and dry grass separate sites that are well spaced and fairly level. Some sites have a lot of slope front to back. Very large picnic areas, I imagine this place gets crowded during the hot summer months. The lake is great for canoeing and kayaking with tons of birds. If we come back to Laredo, we will be here for sure.

The park is as described by most of the other reviewers. It's biggest negative is that the six month limit is an improper policy for a public facility with only 24 spaces. Allowing people to live here for six months at a time denies the rest of the public from utilizing a public facility. We stayed in the overflow at $15.00 per night with no hookups and were told that it would be at least another week before there was even a chance of anybody leaving, or it could be months. We will not come here again.

Calling this park a "parking lot" is a bit harsh. There is lawn, picnic tables, and charcoal grills separating every other site. Staff does a good job of pairing motorhomes that can pull straight in with trailers that back in for the best privacy possible. Beach is great and convenient. Ranger patrol were frequent, and the gate is locked after 10pm. Campers are given the combination on check-in. Propane trucks came by about 2-3 times a week. Buy the annual day use pass for $60.00 and this is the best beach campground value anywhere at $16.00 per night.

Other reviewers hit it on the nose. Beautiful sites, well spaced, facing the ocean. Yes, the backing in arrangement seems strange, but is manageable. Beautiful deserted beaches in January, we walked for 2-3 miles in every direction without seeing another person. Showers were undergoing renovation while we were here, new tile and unknown what else. Only areas 1-12 and 25-36 have restroom/shower buildings. Area 13-24 has nothing. We ended up staying 10 days and will definitely be back next winter for a couple of weeks.

OK, so maybe some of you have this confused with a "resort-style" park. It isn't, and never was intended to be. This park offers RV'ers exactly what Escapees is famous for: clean, safe, economical places to stay and enjoy the company of others. We stayed for a month in a clean, gravel site that only needed a little leveling and was surrounded by grass. The people in the deeded and leased lots pay for their concrete slabs and other improvements. Also I would rather pay only for the electricity that I actually used rather than for someone else who has electric heaters running 24 hours a day. Bottom line is if you want concrete slabs, miniature golf, or a bowling alley, pay the $60-70 and stay with the resort crowd. I'll take the Escapees Way every time. The people, the activities, and the convenience of mail pick-up make this one of my favorite places.

Beautiful views, great sunsets from every site. Large, fairly level gravel sites with water and power. Power was strong and clean, but at times the water pressure was low enough to require on board water pump support. We were here over Thanksgiving week and the park got close to full, but there were always no-hookup sites available. The bathroom/shower room (only 1 for the whole park) was unheated so we didn't use them. They looked as reported by another reviewer - clean but aging. We will definitely stop for another week when passing through.

Spotlessly clean, beautiful well spaced sites. Water in the showers was hot enough for me. Great trails, only a mile or two from shopping and eating (try the El Encanto in Cave Creek). TV reception was great without satellite, and Verizon cell and internet worked too. We will be back every year to stay the 14 day limit on our winter travels.

Not much to look at, but the private hot springs are great, especially after 10 hours on the road. Managers were very friendly and helpful. I will definitely stop again for a night's rest and soak.

No longer free. I guess that went the way of the $.99 buffet. The sites are now $7.00. You have to pay at the Palms, then take your receipt to the Tropicana about a mile down the road to pick up your permit. Security patrols hourly, so hurry back and put your permit in the window or they will leave a warning.
