This small RV campground is about 6 miles from Hot Springs. We chose it because it was on a mountain top and looked like it had great views. There are some nice views within this small park, but not from the sites. There is noise from Hwy 70, but it does die down in the evening. However, there are several full-timers in the park. Some leave barking dogs; some work shift work. Cars and trucks come and go all night. The restrooms are clean, but need some updating. The staff is friendly. Overall not bad, but not great.
This park is an old park that has not been cared for or updated. There is a narrow winding road into the park that will not allow two RV/trailers to come/go at the same time. There are more rusted, apparently abandoned trailers than useful sites. "Sites" are just places in the grass. The electric lines between hookups are laying on top ground. The quiet rules are not enforced. Several people partied until 1 am, using foul language. Depending upon where your site is, the restrooms can be a 10 minute hike. They are so old and not well-maintained. No lights in one - doors don't close. Empty beer bottles littered a camp road and laid there all weekend. There are very few campgrounds in the Chicago area, but this is one you want to avoid. We couldn't believe it had a Good Sam's affiliation.
This park is REALLY clean! The restrooms are new and modern. The sites are spaced nicely and shady. Even though it was too cold and rainy for us to use, the pool is beautiful and nicely maintained. The laundry room has enough washers and dryers and is REALLY clean. The owners/managers are friendly and helpful. This park is close enough to access all the action in the Dells, but is also situated in a quiet part of the area. We would recommend this park to families, seniors and anyone with pets...really nice experience.
Campsites are paved and have 30 amp service, no water. Some sites are harder to back into than others due to tight curves. Park office was closed when we arrived, but Ranger found us and informed us that, in addition to daily fee of $18 (plus $7 online admin fee), we needed to pay $5 daily usage fee. Restrooms were dingy, with dirty floors and mold growing on wall where water dripped from flusher. Based on that, we chose not to even check out the showers. Camp hosts not engaging. With such high camp fees, we were really disappointed with services and maintenance. There are many more places in the Omaha area - we would not stay here again.
Camper review in 2010 is very accurate. This is a nice quiet campground with really nice restrooms/showers. The Kalona City Park (in front of campground) is well-kept and has a newly updated swimming pool. The sites were built before campers had big motor homes, so spaces are tight if the park is full. Most sites are 30 amp/water. Dump station is easy to use. No reservations are accepted. Kalona has a wonderful downtown area with good places to eat and shop. Area has many different types of shopping.
