Clean, close to interstate with moderate noise, attractive campgrounds. Not a resort, but easy access to highway. Sites were fairly sloped so bring blocks for your wheels. Owners were friendly and helpful. Some long-term residents, occasional burnt out or neglected trailer on site but mostly just fine all around. Nice place to overnight en route north or south.
Recently purchased by the county from private owners, the staff told me they were about to start a major renovation next year. It is densely packed, reasonably clean, and uninteresting as a campground. Noise was not a problem for us but as crowded together as the sites are, it could happen very easily. Staff was friendly and helpful. The real reason to go here is to be a short 100 yard walk to a very nice Gulf beach and a beautiful sunset. The surrounding area is fun and easy to travel about in. Go here for the beach, don't expect much else.
Somewhat unusual park with cages of exotic birds and monkeys scattered here and there. Half mile walk to the beach, easy bike ride. Aside from long delays at check-in, the park functioned smoothly. It was quiet, the site was ample in size and shaded. Restrooms and showers were adequate but not first class. About half long-term campers who seemed to enjoy a sense of community. WiFi was functional but we were at the edge of reception and lost the connection regularly. Very convenient location; bikes and walking will suffice for most. Note: no credit cards accepted so bring a check. Ants were a nuisance but not a major hassle, very few mosquitoes and no-see-ums this time of year. We will return and enjoyed this unique island campground.
River front campground, new owner 2005, friendly staff. Lots of items in disrepair, run down. Wireless did not reach campsite. Few other amenities. They do not encourage kids. Manager states improvements and a pool are anticipated. About half permanent or seasonal residents. I would rate it as adequate but no particular reason to return unless passing through the area.
