Things are great here in the Rio Grande Valley. Mission West has taken on a new personality, more of a family atmosphere, now that many of the people causing problems have "moved on" down the road. Great place to stay for the Winter!
When we called,we were told that they could accommodate a 40' coach with 4 slides, and that they had 50 amp available. When we got here, after driving 30 miles out of our way, we were told that only 30 amp was available. We decided to stay as we could get by on 30 amp if we didn't use both a/c units. we were given space #28 which required a tight 90 degree turn to the left, a tight 90 degree turn to the right then a tight 120 degree turn back to the left. The culvert on the 120 degree turn had been collapsed for some time and caused the motorhome to tilt drastically left bringing the motorhome into contact with a large rock resulting in several deep scratches in the paint. Our tow car went through the same collapsed area causing the muffler to be knocked loose. We got to the space assigned to us and found that the trees on each side had not been trimmed in some time and we had to limit how much we put the slides out to avoid damage to the slides. Rather than cause a fuss, we dealt with all these problems as we were tired and needed sleep. The next morning as we were leaving, the trees on the right side of our rig had limbs sticking out too far and caused two (2) scratches on the right side of the motorhome. I was too upset to try talking to anyone here, so we left and vowed never to go back! I do have pictures to substantiate my claims, a photo of the collapsed culvert and photos of the damage to the motorhome and a receipt for repair to our tow vehicle. Maybe I'm being too severe, but they said they could accommodate a 40' rig when we called! If you want to see the photos I can e-mail them to you.
This is a small park: 27 spaces, most with 30 amp service but was enough for our rig to stay for 2 nights. Very friendly staff/owners (that just took over operations in March). Many upgrades under construction. With a little TLC and this park will be a winner, and packed with a waiting list to get in! Located on hwy 160 about 50 miles from Walsenburg, Colorado. The Great Sand Dunes National Park is just 25 miles away, Fort Garland Museum is 4 miles away. There is a great diner within walking distance. Has on site propane, a food store, and video rentals. Overall a good value. They also accept Passport America.
Exceptionally clean park. Has a great clubroom with gigantic wide screen TV, fully equipped kitchen, clean showers and toilet facilities. One of the nicest parks we've stayed in on our vacation. Highly recommended.
