Perfect overnight stop, moments from I-95. Small park, beautifully landscaped, looked charming as we pulled in. Very friendly welcome. Walking distance to Waffle House & fast food if you don't want to unhook. Sites level, maybe a little narrow for a longer stay, but we noticed there were other, wider sites. Very happy with the site & the rate which included cable & Wi-Fi, which worked well. We would definitely return to this site.
It is a very clean, tidy, nicely presented & maintained RV park and one of the best looking we have visited. It is convenient for visiting the town, about a 10 minute walk away. We had a back-in site which was adequate for our 30ft 5th wheel. The outside space quite good. The pull-through sites are larger, but a little more expensive. There is a great shop & office area, with very helpful staff. The free coffee in the morning is a nice touch. Restrooms & laundry were spotless. The family stayed in the cabins on site, & were very comfortable (although they missed having a TV.) We enjoyed our 5 night stay there, would use the park again & have no hesitation in recommending it. We have only one minor complaint. They have a 2 hr coupon system for wi-fi, which is a bit inconvenient. As they give you extra coupons free on demand, we couldn't understand why they didn't just make the wi-fi free & save us the trips to the office & the hassle for the staff. If the park had had a swimming pool & better wi-fi, I would have scored it 9/10. The rate may appear high, but seems to be what you have to pay to be in this area at this time, & when you've seen Yellowstone - it's worth every penny!
Just as we would expect a KOA should be, but sadly nowadays so often aren't. A well laid out park, adequate sized site (we had a back-in as that was all available, pull through sites are larger), concrete pad, picnic table & barbecue. There were plenty of facilities, pool, some gym equipment, kids playground, 'fitness' walk round nice lake, and fishing. The people in the shop-reception are very friendly & efficient. There is an excellent laundry, loads of machines that looked pretty new, plenty of space for folding etc., all scrupulously clean. The price reflects KOA card discount. We would stay there again.
Very difficult to score this park fairly. The positives. The location & views are spectacular & it's worth the drive up the mountain to stay in such a beautiful place. It's very convenient for Cripple Creek. On arrival the receptionist was friendly & efficient, allocated us a site - but gave us some alternative sites if we weren't happy with the one we'd been given, which was nice. All the sites are pull throughs, easy enough to access & quite spacious, all with terrific views. The Wi-Fi works fine. The negatives. All the sites are VERY uneven. We found it impossible to level the fifth wheel, & had to be very careful walking on the site that we didn't twist an ankle or worse on the bumpy ground. The surface is a mixture of bumpy, weedy gravel or unmown grass. No cable & we only got 1 TV channel. We also thought it a bit pricey. However, somehow, when you look out at the mountains - none of this matters. So how do you score? Views a definite 10, but site condition really only deserves a 5. This site has the potential to be fabulous. I understand the owners have only been there a year or so, have already added 2 fantastic 'lodges' & will no doubt improve the sites as time & money allow.
All RV sites should be like this one. Lovely spacious sites, neighbors a good distance away, all pull throughs with level concrete base, fabulous views of the lake, nice quality table & fire pit provided on graveled area. There is a marina, cycle/walking trails, swimming beach, Wi-Fi. Only lacks cable & a swimming pool. We planned to stay 3 nights, stayed for 5 & wished we had booked the maximum 2 weeks. If you want to stay here I'd recommend you book online (3 days before arrival), even though they levy an $8 booking fee. We left it too late to book on-line, but as they had walk up sites available just turned up. The system appeared to us a bit chaotic - you have to drive around the sites looking for free pitches, decide which ones you'd like, & then rush back to the office & hope no-one else has bagged your choice in the meantime! On-line & $8 eliminates a whole lot of stress. If you stay here, make time to visit the Red Rocks Amphitheater while you do the 'Lariat Loop' scenic drive. Us Brits were blown away - we have nothing like this in the UK!
Very friendly, welcoming hosts, lovely shop serving ice cream & offering pizzas & wings. Attractive park, very clean & tidy, just off the interstate. Only stayed 1 night. Booked a 50ft pull thru so we didn't need to unhook, but what we got fell somewhat short!! 5th wheel hung over site limits at the rear & the truck stuck out into the road at the front. We pointed this out to the nice guy who took us to the site, he said 'no problem, no-one else is coming in', so we left it like that as it was just 1 night. These sites in row 'N' are also quite narrow. If you like to sit in your rig or out on your picnic table & get a good look in through your neighbours window, you'll be delighted. In our opinion as experienced RV'ers(& it's only our opinion) the site we were allocated is only suitable for small trailers or compact b class without slides. There are much better sites on the park. We think they maybe saved the better sites for longer staying guests, which we quite understand. If you're going to be there for a longer stay, rows D & E are better. However, nice park & we would stay again so we've marked it as if we'd had a better site.
Very pleasant check-in by lady owner. She persuaded us to take a back-in site in the front section, as although these sites were small, the sites either side would be unoccupied and we'd have more space. We thought this was fantastic, until we realized that the sites in the back were lovely spacious pull-throughs and definitely would have been the better option at the same price. To be fair, we checked in really early, and a lot of people hadn't left, so maybe there wasn't a space avalable. Good points: it's very convenient for Dodge City, and when they complete the new casino it will be virtually next door. There is a small swimming pool that the kids on site seemed to enjoy, although we didn't use. Bad points: Be warned, the 'front' spaces overlook the main road and railway. The road isn't a problem but the railway certainly is! The first night we were awakened 4 times by the trains, the ground shakes, the horns blowing, it sounds as if it's going to drive through your RV! The second night we were awakened 3 times. Pleased, for that reason, we weren't staying longer. Without the intolerable noise, we'd have scored a 6, at $25 or less a 7.
Poor standard for KOA with very narrow sites. We wouldn't feel comfortable sitting out having a bar-b-que. It looked 'scruffy'. Everything worked fine, OK for an overnight, but we wouldn't have wished to stay a week.
Excellent park. Staff at check-in exceptionally friendly & helpful. Everything spotlessly clean & tidy. Lovely big pull through sites, concrete & tarmac. Individual bathrooms spacious, clean & excellent shower. Free laundry was a real bonus. Large shopping mall just 3 miles down Interstate or frontage road. No shade, but then sometimes trees providing shade cause problems with slide-outs & awnings! Would definitely recommend & will stay there again & at others in the group.
