This is a beautiful, clean park situated five minutes from the town of Greer's Ferry so you don't have to drive far for boat launching, swimming, groceries, or restaurants. The grounds were blooming with Spring flowers and trees when we were here. The bathrooms were impressive: private and clean. The new owner was friendly and helpful. She told us about the activities going on in the area, and recommended a great restaurant. They are located on a hillside with gravel roads; which may be intimidating to someone new to pulling a rig or looking for a pull through site, but we had no problems getting in to a site.
This is a primitive campground. There are bathrooms but no shower. The campground is located right on the river and the fishing is great! This is a wonderful spot for viewing wildlife: deer, beaver, raccoon, and muskrat. I even saw a bear once while hiking. If you are looking for a nice spot to take the family, relax, and view wildlife this is the spot for you. Phone access is available at the store 3 miles or so away.
I brought my family to this park again last weekend. I wanted to let folks know this is a nice park. While the facilities are older, they are clean and the park was clean as well. There were plenty of trash receptacles throughout. I asked about the boarded bathrooms and learned they had been vandalized. Also, while bugs are a part of camping, Lake Tawakoni was in the news this summer for giant spider webs, so it makes sense spiders were plentiful. Great place to relax, view wildlife, go fishing and get back to nature.
This park has something for everyone. There were large pull through sites for RV's, tent camping, shelters, and cabins. Tent campers can camp in developed sites or a primitive area they call "rock road". We camp mainly to do some fishing and view wildlife and we were not disappointed...although the lake was very low. They have a large swimming area where we could cool off, a fishing pier, lots of bank to fish from and we saw so much wildlife!! There were deer, raccoons, oppossum, skunks, and armadillo. We also saw many types of birds and later read the lake is home to something like 130 different types of birds. The buildings are old, but the staff keep them very clean; even the fish cleaning station was clean. They also had baseball diamonds, volleyball courts, boat ramps, and the roads looked safe for kids to ride around on their bicycles. The sunset on the lake was beautiful! Great trip! We will definitely go back.
We really loved this park. We went with the expectation that the sites would be close together and there would be little shade: but it's beach camping in a resort area. The park was very clean. The buildings are old, but the bathrooms were kept very clean and well stocked. I wish they had shower curtains for privacy. We camped with our daughter who is under 2 years old and could take her stroller all over the place. My one complaint was the park staff. We called ahead of time to confirm our reservation and were told to call back the next day. They closed earlier than they said: and no one was at the gate. Although it caused us some stress and some added expense on our cell phones: it did not delay us getting a site or getting into the park. I was very impressed with the fishing line recycling stations!!! It's beneficial to sea life, birds, and people.
