My rating based on this being an "overnight stay" type of park. It's near the highway, easy in/out, all pull throughs. It's very clean. But, if you're staying here for a weeekend, take heed. Park is only a year old. Many of the features, like a pool and clubhouse have not been built yet. To be fair, the landscaping is new (no mature trees, etc.) but there is grass/shrubbery making for no mud. Also, note that since most people are overnighters, this place gets a lot of traffic at 6pm and at 8:30am with people coming and going. Was expensive tho, being that there were no features above. Only one real negative no matter how long you stay: bathhouse is in the corner and is far away from the overnight sites. When you check in, you may want to state a preference of where to be.
This is a unique place. It's billed as a campground for your dogs. You're pretty much secondary, and your kids would be after that. It's not that kids aren't welcome, it's just that this is for your fur kids. Owners are the managers, and very involved. Tons of social activities for you and your dog. Owners try and work hard and clearly enjoy what they're doing. One of the owners was a dog trainer. Dogs are welcome everywhere, even the camp store and other buildings (unique). Also they have special dog washing stations, and 5+ fenced-in dog parks (one of which has a pond, another for small dogs, and yet another one is for agility). Clearly if you have a dog, and love it like a child, this is a place you'll want to check out. If you don't, this is a place you'd want to avoid. One other caveat is that while many of their sites are big rig ok, we have a 39 foot 5th wheel and it had some tight turns to get there, and some of their sites aren't big rig friendly. Be sure you get what you need.
Stayed here only one night as stopover. Was an average campground. Clean, safe, etc. Nothing special. Biggest thing to note is no sewer hookups. Plenty of activities for kids. Campground ownership works the front desk, but not sure the money is really put back into it. Had some nice touches (like an outdoor movie theater on the lawn), but then had some old bathrooms. Everything was kind of hit or miss (old or very nice). This place is probably very nice for weekend stays if you're a local camper or going to the racetrack, but otherwise, without the full hookups, it doesn't have anything special to recommend it.
Campground owners are actively managing it -- makes it a very nice place to be. Current owners have had it a while, but continue to invest money, such as new partially paved enter/exit roads. Lake scenery is beautiful, can rent kayaks/canoes on lake. Plenty to do at campground, but outside of it isn't much to do other than the scenery. Located just north of the White Mountains however, so a 30 minute drive can get you somewhere quite nice. Only issue here was the wooded forest made for quite a bunch of bugs.
We stayed in an ocean front premium site (their nicest category). Most expensive site I've ever stayed at, although it's hard to complain about that -- the view was spectacular right on the ocean. Biggest difference between premium and non-premium sites are proximity to neighbors and foliage. Non premium oceanfront sites are tight and narrow with no separation. Location is about 15 minutes from downtown Bar Harbor. Trenton is next town over and has plenty of options, including 4 lobster "pounds" (restaurants) in walking distance. Amenities of campground nice and everything is new. As it was off-season, it wasn't a very happening place. Mostly empty. Biggest negative of this campground was that the bugs made it hard to enjoy the campsite scenery at night.
Been here many times. By far this is the nicest place in the Outer Banks. On the south side, below the National Seashore, so nice and quiet. Same thing for the people at the campground very laid back. Front desk personnel very nice and efficient. Gated. Sites very spacious by comparison around here. Dogs allowed here on beach. And finally, there's a lot of good activities during the season, as well as base amenities, like a indoor pool, etc.
