Two sections to campground. An older loop right next to entrance, and a new area. Older area has trees, concrete pads, table. New area is a basic parking lot with utility pedestals. Arrived near sunset and got the last site in older section. Campground host very helpful. Some long term residents, but park was clean and quiet. Nice area to walk around. Do be aware that campground is near road, and water front area is a day use recreation area for a training AFB with lots of very young airmen, soldiers, sailors and marines out to party on the weekends. Will stay here again every time we are in the area is space is available. Much better rate for facilities than city owned or commercial CG nearby.
Rate is full rate for dry camping. Senior Pass is $7 per night. Excellent tent campground. Fair campground for small pop-ups, travel trailers and motorhomes. Pull-through sites are really just parking along wide spot in road. Road side slides may not work. Small rigs only. Though some up to 30' will fit a few spots - they won't be level. No real level RV parking anywhere in campground. There are no showers available at any NPS campground in Big Bend NP. Only pay showers at Rio Grande Village. The scenery, and cooler weather in summer, makes Chisos Basin worth a visit.
No restrooms or showers. Does have a small laundry facility. About 1/2 of the sites have 50 amp. Temporary camp host very helpful in getting into tight spot and setup in the rain. As other noted - next to a very busy road. Rate seems a bit high for only a tight parking spot with a picnic table very close to next rig. It is really just a place to park the rig while out visiting the area. Cable TV fair, too many trees for satellite dish. Wi-Fi very good. Verizon MiFi signal strong. AT&T 4G seems bogged down throughout Ruidoso area - slow and times out often.
