Hard to argue with any of the reviews already posted. This really is a nice camp/resort. I like the fact, that to the benefit of both, the "seasonals" are separate from the "dailies/weekenders". While a bit pricey, the cabins are the best I have seen. This year the owners are going to keep them open for the entire year. That might be interesting in the middle of January! The roads are a bit tight, but with caution there should not be any problems getting around. Large sites, remarkably clean restrooms and bathhouses. The pool was crystal clear. The office, attached deck, lake, just everything was perfect. I urge you to take a ride to the nearby towns of Savana and Galena to get a true feel for the beauty of the Northwestern part of Illinios. I am surprised every single time by the hills, views, colors in fall, farms, etc..
This has become our "go to" campground. It is perfect for a 2 or 3 day weekend trip. The current owners are continually improving this park. In fact, it seems that something is new or updated on nearly every visit. While I'd prefer a sewer hook up, it has not been a problem to go without one for a short trip. The seasonal sites are very well kept under the watchful eye of the management. Some of the sites on "club row" face each other, so there is potential for seeing more of your neighbor than you may want. While there is not a lot of things for kids to do on site a large water park is close by. Tubing and fishing is a short walk away on the Kiswakke River. For sure we will be back to enjoy the peace and quiet of Blackhawk Valley
While considered mostly an RV resort, there are a number of sites available for daily / weekend use. The majority of the sites are privately owned but the owners are allowed to sublet their site to other users. They are in the midst of expanding the park to include full time residents in the Park Model section. The management and staff are as helpful and friendly that I have ever seen. My only negative is that they seem to want to pack in too many sites in a small area. My site was a bit tight, but I was able to back in without too much trouble. I'd go here again.
The jury is still out for me on this facility. While very clean and the staff seems pretty nice,(very strict!) I can't put my finger on what bothers me here. Very close (but no problem) to the Interstate. Also the state parks are close by. Shopping is not a problem as several large towns and even a few RV stores are within easy drive distances. Going to give this place one more try in October. I will be with a group, so we'll see how that goes. I do agree that big rigs may take some nifty handling to navigate the roadways...
