Nice facility but a really lackadaisical staff with few customer service skills. They will not take reservations, fine, but when we called just to see if a site might be available, she says, “I don’t have my book in front of me but it should be no problem.” When we got there it was, “Whoops, I forgot that a Holiday Rambler Rally had booked all of the sites for this week. Oh, you can drive around and see if someone might have left.” They had no idea who was there and who wasn't, and left it up to us to find out! We ended up in an uneven field with 20amp and water only. They also have no dump station. Make sure to ask them to check “the book” when you call. I did look it over, and it is a nice facility if you can get a site.
This is the 13th Park we have stayed in on this 34 day trip starting in upstate New York. It is by far the best of 13. The owners and staff are friendly and helpful, the buildings and grounds are neat and clean. The pull throughs are level, and the full hook-ups are just that. We happened to land on the once a month, owner provided cookout, and it was really nice. We really have enjoyed our 4 day stay and will definitely be back. We are Passport members.
We always stop here when we head north or south on I-95. It's easy on/off the Interstate, with gas and food nearby. The staff is always courteous and professional. The sites are mostly pull-through making it doubly nice for big rigs. It is a little noisy near the interstate, but you tune it out fairly quickly. Fellow campers have always been friendly. There is a motel and restaurant adjoining the campground as well. We use Passport America.
This park was first built in 1965 and not many improvements were added over the years until the present owner took charge. He upgraded the electric system, installed park-wide wi-fi, and just this year brought in tons of fine, crushed stone to improve the roadways. He also rebuilt and remodeled the washroom/shower building over the 2009/2010 winter period. He also hosts fantastic picnics in the pavilion for all campers on the three major summer holiday weekends. He supplies the meat, asking campers only to bring a dish to pass. This year he also brought in a live band, face painters, and caricature artists. The campground is located on the beautiful Schroon River which affords a lazy 3 hour float trip back to the campsite. The fishing is also phenomenal. There are activities all season long including hay and go-cart rides, movies, bingo and organized picnic trips to an amusement park and horse racing. The park is about 75% filled with seasonals who are mostly working families who come in on the weekends. It is so quiet and serene during the week. All sites are under the shade of the tall pines. The scenery and the caring, family atmosphere make this campground worth a visit, and you will come back. There are cabins and RV's for rent, and all tent sites are located right along the river.
