We usually camp in NC state parks and decided to give a SC state park a try. What a vast difference. We will not be returning to this park. While check-in was quick and easy the employee was paying more attention to someone else in the store carrying on a conversation with them. No introduction to their park, where we were to go, where things were located, just here's your parking pass. The site was very nice which was the only plus. Very level and paved, not very wide. We had a lakefront site. The last people left their bag of trash in the fire ring which was not cleaned out. Looks like the ashes had never been cleaned out as they were just about to the top of the ring. While you could get down to the water from the site it was a considerable climb. Once we did make the climb down it very dirty. Dead fish floating on the he edges, lots of trash and debris. Very funky smell. They did have a swimming area if you could call it that. No beach. Had to walk over large rocks to get in the water. The swimming area was at the boat launch so on a Saturday there was much boat traffic and you had to keep an eye out for the boaters. We very rarely saw any staff through the park. Every NC state park we have been to there is constant staff around. We will not be returning to this park. Very disappointed.

Highly disappointed in this campground. First, we almost drove right by because there is no large sign and there are small letters on a brick entrance wall. The lake is the only saving grace in which we were still disappointed. All we kept hearing is how the water is crystal clear. It most definitely was not once you got out past your waist. Maybe from all the rain that the area has been getting over the summer? It was still nice to swim or float in and was very warm. The beach area is very nice, but lots of smokers who left their butts in the sand or water. The overnight section is in the middle of the campground right on the main road. The sites are all pull thru and some are shaded. Never having been there before, they gave us a map with brief instructions of how to get to our site. The sites were pretty empty when we arrived early in the day and it was very hard to judge which number belonged to which site. The worst was on the site around us (luckily not ours) there was a tree right in the middle of where you need to pull through. Our neighbors on both sides struggled to get in and unhook their vehicle. The sites are so close together the neighbors awning about touched our camper and we had to go under their awning into their campsite to dump. The golf carts are out of control. Loud music and cruising until midnight. Young kids not paying attention, using their cell phones while driving, no parental control. It was hard to ride our bikes without getting run over. The camper across the way had a disco ball with bright flashing lights and load music going every night. It is definitely not someplace you want to go to relax and sit around a campfire. The only way you could do a fire was if you bring your own fire pit, but who knows where you would put it because of the campers being so close. Some of the seasonal/permanent sites were so dumpy. The bathrooms were clean and each was separate with their own toilet and shower. The only downside was you pushed a button to get timed water and you could not adjust the temperature. The one night the water was so scalding hot you could barely go under it. There is a lot for kids to do and they have different activities for them. Nice big arcade and camp store. Barely saw any staff members around the campground the whole weekend we were there. This campground is definitely a once and done, we will not return.

This is a brand new RV park that opened in September and is located at the Pilot Mountain State Park exit off of HWY 52. The owners are absolutely wonderful. Their home is located on the property. They came around to your site to make sure that everything was OK and shared their future plans for the campground. Beautiful view of Pilot Mountain. All sites are pull through and sit facing the pinnacle. There are only about 10 sites. All are perfectly level concrete pads. Currently there is gravel around the pads, but the owners said that they are still working on all of that. The bathhouse is impeccable, like something you could have in a 5 star hotel. Large shower and bathroom stalls, all handicap accessible. You could tell the owners take pride in their property. There is no pool or playground for the kids, so if you are looking for some place small and quiet this is the place. There is just a little highway noise, but it was not enough to bother us. There is a catch and release pond, but it sits down at the bottom of a hill and would be hard to get to for some. The nightly rate was a little high for the amenities. If we ever stay in the area again, it will definitely be this campground.

We come to Dan Nicholas several times a year as we are a county resident. We absolutely love this park. Most of the sites are very level, some being a little tricky to get into because of the tress. They are very large shaded gravel sites with a fire ring and picnic table. The staff is outstanding and you can tell they take pride in keeping the campground clean. The restrooms are very clean. No sewer hookup and they really need to remove the tree obstacle at the dump station. This is the only thing that keeps me from giving the park a 10. There is so much to do on the park side - gem mining, carousel, train, small zoo, petting zoo, aquarium, miniature golf, paddle boats, large lake. Small concession stand. It's very quiet and nights are great to sit around the campfire. Do not expect much of a cell phone signal if any at all. You can get just a couple local stations on the TV using your antenna. We highly recommend this park and we will continue to visit as often as we can.

This is a very nice park. We arrived a few minutes after the office had closed but our welcome packet was waiting in the mail box. We drove around into the campground and the host came out to meet us. He escorted us to our site since this was our first stay at the park and helped back us right in. He told us a little about the park and the area and if we had any questions to feel free to come to his camper and ask. Very friendly. Some of the sites are very sloped and we do not see how your could get very level. They do however tell you this when you book your site online. The roads are nicely paved and easy to navigate. The sites also have a pad and give you plenty of room. For all the activities you have to actually go into the park, they are not right at the campground. But they have plenty of trails you can walk or bike ride. They have a very large pool, 2 golf courses, a 3 par course, horseback riding, 2 lakes and 3 mountain bike paths. We were disappointed that you could not have a campfire at your campsite. Not sure why, there was plenty of room between spaces. There were some community fire rings by the pavilion but you would have to drag your firewood over there if you were not in one of the close spots. They have just opened a beautiful off leash dog park that is situated right at the entrance to the campground. We will definitely be frequenting this park.

We camped here Halloween weekend. The park was ok. Sites were a little confusing the way they backed into each other. It was not busy and we had the whole site, which was very roomy. Could use some kind of gravel, very muddy and dirty. No issues with leveling in our site. Was disappointed that they did not have any activities for Halloween. Not even trick or treating which we have found in previous years at other campgrounds. They did have the Campground Massacre going on which was an ok trail and campers received a discount. A lot of highway noise and people just stopping in for the night which made mornings noisy. Seems to be typical thing with KOA. There was a lot of car traffic on the road in and out of the campground which we think was coming from the large section of permanent campers in the back of the campground. A little expensive for what you get and location. We will not camp here again.

This is one of the nicest campgrounds that we have been to. Very surprised for a KOA. The sites were long and roomy and clean. The staff was very friendly and check in was less than 5 minutes. Being the holiday weekend we were expecting it to be crowded and noisy but it was just the opposite. Wal-Mart was less than a mile away. It was a short drive to the Isle of Palm beach and about a 10 mile drive to Charleston. Had no issues with cable TV, Wi-Fi or ants as reported by previous reviewers. Will definitely be back next year as we preferred this much more over Myrtle Beach.

Not too many good points about this campground. The area with full hookups is cramped into two rows. It is very hard to navigate into the spots. The campers are parked every other way so your neighbor was facing you. There was barely enough room to open both awnings. The two spots side by side should actually be one spot. The sites were not very level. No room for a fire. This campground was a revolving door, seemed like it was more of an overnight stop through. The pool was open to locals so it was always full. The good points, the staff was extremely nice and there was a very large family fun center with indoor mini golf, arcade games, and a small cafe. We would not stay here again.

The roads were in very bad shape, very narrow and full of pot holes. You had to circle around the whole campground just to get in or out. The sites were very close together. Our original site was at the top of the hill and was not very level. You had to pull half into another site to get to our site. It was too small for our trailer. While the camper sat at the top of the hill, the truck was halfway down and we could not get disconnected. We would have not been able to open our awning or sit outside the camper as it had a hill on that side. We spoke with the woman at the office and she had 2 sites available around the lake. We moved sites and had no problem from that point forward. The staff was very friendly. The grounds were very clean. Lots of activities for the kids for Easter weekend. This KOA will probably not be a place that we will return to.

This is a very nice, clean campground located directly off I-95. The owners were very nice and helpful. The sites were level and in an open field with some trees. Although the area around the campground is not very nice, we were in town for a race at the speedway and will definitely stay here again if we return to Dillon.
