We camped at Mataquac for 3 nights. We hadn't been there for many years so went back for old time's sake. Everything looked the same as we left it. We stayed in one of the wooded sites overlooking the dam. The bathrooms were kept clean considering the number of campers, but they really could use a make over.
We stayed here for 5 nights in Aug. 2011. We loved the campground. We stayed in site 628 so we had a water view. It was a tight fit to get the trailer in. It was a little rowdy on the weekend with tent folks in the row in front of us but the security was great in quieting them down. The washrooms were kept really clean the whole time we were there. Be prepared, the place was packed on the weekend. It was overall a quiet place for the number of people there.
We had stayed in this campground one other time in recent years, Sept 2009, but it was a on a long weekend, so thought we would chance it again. Bad Choice! If loud drunken parties, with absolutely no quiet time in practice is not for you, do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. After the second night and no answer at the door or phone of the owner/operator trailer which was obviously occupied, we gave up and left early the next morning. We had asked the party of approximately 15-20(seasonal and friends of theirs) to please quiet down a bit at 1:30am so we could get some sleep, with no luck. They were very loud and constantly passing through our site on their way to other sites. The next morning we did complain to the owner, but other than a token sorry, he did not seem interested in repeat weekenders. The respect of other campers is not taken into consideration whatsoever in this campground. The seasonal party goers were friends of the owners so if you are not interested in hearing loud, drunk, barfing party goers, do not stay here. We have camped for many, many years and this is only the 2nd time things have been this bad. If you want a quiet, cleaner campground without this type of nonsense, try New River Beach a few miles up the road.
We loved this provincial park. The sites are shaded. Semi serviced sites have electricity but not water. Restrooms were kept very clean. A laundry and kitchen shelters were available. The beach is walking distance, we could hear the surf at night. The water is cold being the Bay of Fundy, but the beach is sandy and great for sunbathing. There are hiking trails and a small restaurant "The Gull and Herring". We will definitely go back to this quiet, nice campground.
We found this campground to be quiet and clean. Some sites have a water view. We opted to stay in an unserviced site so we could have more privacy. The majority of the serviced sites (27) were in an open field with only a few trees for shade. Our site being on the edge of the forest was shaded and had a distant water view. There was a playground and the beach was a short walk. We found the bathrooms clean. Although we didn't use it, a laundry was available as well as a kitchen shelter. Grand Manan itself is beautiful with lots of nice beaches and coastline to discover.
We stayed here for one night. The sites were very spacious. The washrooms were kept exceptionally clean. There were only 5 campers registered for the night we were here, which we found a little too quiet. We moved on the next day. The park really is quite nice, I don't know why it isn't more popular.
We stayed here twice in August, once being a one night stopover on our way to somewhere else in Nova Scotia and then one night on our return trip. The first night we had an electric and water site by the lake. The site was extremely small with two other trailers so close it was uncomfortable. The second night through we decided to stay in an unserviced tent site so we could have a larger site. There were a lot of seasonal trailers here. We thought there were not enough bathrooms for the whole campground. There was one building with only 4 stalls in the ladies room. The wall partition between the stalls were only shoulder height which was uncomfortable for me. The bathroom needs a renovation and perhaps another bathroom building with more stalls available for campers. The highway traffic was very loud all through the night.
We found this newer campground clean. The bathrooms were kept clean and well equipped. It had a lot of seasonal trailers. It was early in the season so crowding was not a problem for us but the sites were very small and would probably be a problem in the busy season. We probably won't camp here again as we like larger, more private sites.
