This is the best in the area. Have visited again as we traveled through WA. The only drawback is some of the sites (big rig) are not level. They do require that if you use jacks you must use their wood blocks (which they supply). So they have plenty of wood blocks to help you get level, but it is quite comical if you go to the big site section to see all of the rigs about 3' up in the air in the front and tires dangling 6-12" in the air. a very nice park otherwise
The best campground in Homer. Friendly staff and nice services in the office (deli, firewood, arrange for travel, etc). The only drawback people may find is the price ($80/night) especially during slow periods where you can easily park almost for free (and some places for free). Easily worth $80 (or more), but with so much competition in Homer with the same incredible views, I think they are overpriced. If it was the only park on the Homer spit, it would be worth $100/night, but with state parks right down the road and many private parks close by, it is expensive. But the only park with full hookups on the spit and the best choice. Wi-fi choices are good. The park does not have free wi-fi (they do, but it does not work anywhere), but use "SPITwSPOT". It is a pay as you go ($10/day to $45/week), but excellent and if you arent balking at the $80/night, then you will be happy with the private wi-fi. If we return to Homer, we will not stay anywhere else .. this is the place.
They did not have water running in May 2009. What is disconcerting is that I called when making the reservation and asked specifically if they had full hook-ups. Now mind you, this place is about 10-15 minutes away from other parks, so once you get there, you pretty much have to "put up with it" for the night lest you run around finding another park. I would not have stayed two nights at this dump. So I give them a rating of 1 for lying, otherwise I would give them a 6. Also, they charge $5 per person over two people and $5 per pet. I wouldnt mind the $5 per pet, except there is dog poo everywhere. If you are going to charge $5 for pet, then put the money to use and get someone to pick up the dog poo. You will step and/or smell it. One neighbor had a leaky sewer connection (a small puddle of black water on their site) and nobody minded or cared. This seemed to be the norm with this park. The sites are very tight and the place seemed to have a lot of full-timers (lots of other vehicles, some sites had up to 3 vehicles, meaning you had to ask them to move their vehicle so you could move in and out since they obviously are parking where they shouldnt be). Business is good so they dont seem to care. If the place is full, why should they bother seems to be their attitude. They did credit us two dollars when I complained about their lack of water services even though they said on the phone they had full hookups. The owners run the park and work the office, so this behavior is unacceptable.
The worst park I have ever been to. We called in, said we had a 45' and the owner said we would fit no problem. We showed up, struggled to fit into one of their two available sites, asked her if we could move to the site by the motel, she refused saying it was not available for rent for motorhomes, and refunded our money. I think the reviewer who gave it 10/10 must be the owner or a friend of the owner because this place is terrible. You cannot park a motorhome by the motel. These pull-through sites will not work unless you are less than 30' long, (because you must pull in from the back of all the other coaches with minimal clearance). The site she tried to put us into, you must pull in (and back out). For this reason she should not have taken the reservation. We have never had difficulty getting into a spot (even though we are a 45' coach), because of two reasons. (a) I have lots of experience, (b) I have never had a park lie to me about their accommodations. If it was an employee lying to me, that would be one thing. But it was the owner. You just have to AVOID this place at all costs. There are much better choices.
This is a nice park for the area, and the owners are extremely friendly, but they are new to the business. The trees have overgrown and need to be cut back (you big rigs will touch some leaves -- now whether it does damage or not depends on your driving skill), also we saw a motorhome sink into the ground. They opened early for the season and obviously were not prepared. Maybe if you go in july or august they will cut back the trees and work out the "bugs". The location is far from town, but if you want a place to camp, it has a good atmosphere. The owners are truly excellent, though, and I think you should ignore this review come the 2010 season
I think the "best bet" for Anchorage. Great location. We came in with a 45' motorhome. If you are a big rig, the turn into their street is tight and the turn into the park is not well designed either (just take it wide and make sure there is no opposing traffic, it will not be an issue if you are patient). Also there was a lot of dog poo everywhere, so it would be nice if the owners would get their employees to clean up. There seemed to be a lot of employees there (it appears to be run by a large company), but it is difficult to walk and to avoid all the poo. Very nasty, but not uncommon with other parks. The price initially felt very high at $45 since it appeared on initial reaction to be somewhat of a dump, but it is not. The location is perfect and it works very well. We will return next time in Anchorage area.
The park is on a steep hill. They try to sell the tour aggressively. It is a good tour and convenient.. So if you are looking for a tour, it is a good bet. The tour guy is nice. But it is obvious the campground gets a commission because they sell it hard. Their sites are not level. And when I went to tell them about it, all they did is make fun of me asking why I couldn't get my rig leveled. They said "the sites are level, we put a level to it". I didn't know what to say??? The sites at OUT OF LEVEL by at least THREE FEET. What kind of level are they using? I don't mind an unlevel site, but don't make fun of your guests! We will NOT return for that reason. They pressure you to extend your stay "Well.. we have this nice site, if you were willing to stay an extra night or two, we could make it happen". OK, I took the bait and that "nice site" was not level either! I could NOT get my rig leveled and looking around the park, it was a common theme. There is a steep and sharp turn on the park, but if you can make it this far to Florida, NY then you probably will make the sharp turn. Their electricity had a LOW VOLTAGE condition. They blamed it on the electric company. They must think I am stupid ?? There is 118V when I put no load, and once i try to get a load there is 95V. If it was the electric company, it would be 95V to begin with. They wont accept responsibility. Instead they are building the park, adding more sites, and everything is done in a shoddy matter. These guys need to step back and take their blinders off and look at themselves.
The roads are washed out. So if you have a sedan you will not be happy going down that road. If you go to "RV resorts", you will find this place to be a dump. If you want to experience lots of weeds, unlevel sites, bugs, rabbits, maybe some rodents, then this is a good place. The sewer line backed up after i dumped about 50-60 gal. fortunately i was dumping my gray water. The owners have not spent a dime on maintaining this CG. I think they are just offering it "as is" and will close it if people stop going. They really don't care. It costs them nothing to run since the owner is the diesel truck stop (and the girls that work there can't answer any questions about which sites have 50amp vs 30amp, etc...) We stayed to get some rest and play at the local casino. Next time, (if there is a next time), we will stay at the truck stop and forget the CG.
It is OK. Great location is its selling point. Close to Disneyland (<1 mile). Great view and sounds of Disney fireworks. Better than being in the park. With its great location and price, it has room to improve and become more "upscale", but I am mostly concerned about access (7), quietness (9), and location (10). Staff was extremely friendly and not reflected in my rating.
