Lake Perris is a great park to use during the off season months as it is never overly crowded, and there are plenty of spaces to choose from, even if you don't have a reservation. All full hookup sites are right on top of each other, but dry campsites are spaced well and have lots of trees/brush between. Park staff are friendly and available. Restrooms were clean and stocked ( the park was only about 20% full). Boat rental is available though pricey. Bring your bikes as there is plenty of room to ride. Not sure what it's like here during the summer but will find out! If you like your privacy as we do, dry camping sites are for you.

This is a great campground in a pine forest close to Mammoth Lakes. Roads are very narrow and winding and most sites take a bit of maneuvering to park. Wood available at host sites. No showers but you can go across the street to another campground. Weather is cool in the evenings here even in summer, bring blankets! Tons to do in town from biking, hiking and fishing to eating and bar hopping. Plenty of grocery stores and gas stations. Just under 2 hours to Yosemite Park. Lots of places to hike and dog walk adjacent to most campsites. Overall campground is quiet and shady. USE THE BEAR BOXES, THERE REALLY ARE BEARS HERE!

We camp here whenever we can get a site, which is hard to do. Ocean-side sites are great but you can still see the water from most other sites. Plenty of room to park your trailer/truck and some can accommodate 2 rigs. Very narrow road used by lots of kids, dogs and carts is busy all day but park is very quiet at night. Not the best beach to swim but plenty of other sites nearby. Great dining in Cardiff, Carlsbad and Encinitas. Very private sites due to trees and brush between most. Booking for most summer months takes place in the space of about 8 minutes in early February, but walk-ups available through May and again in September for some weekends. Take your dog! You must keep it leashed in the campground, but about 8 miles away is the Del Mar Dog Beach: dogs are unleashed until Memorial Day and then again after Labor Day. Can't wait to go back!
