This was our second visit here. We stayed in site 29. Very large and roomy sites. Lots of trees and well shaded. Sites are spread out for privacy. Swimming beach is a short drive away. I only wish it was in walking distance. Bathhouse was clean and up to date.
This is our second time visiting this campground. We stayed in site 99. Most sites are large and there is space between sites. There are some smaller sites that can only fit tents and pop-ups. There are also a few sites that are a bit close together. Many sites are on the water. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It is a very family friendly campground.
We always enjoy our stay here. We stayed on site A54. Most sites can accommodate a large camper. Most sites are shady. There are some sites on the water, but they are always booked up. Very popular campground. Even though it was completely booked for the Memorial Day weekend it still didn't feel crowded. My only complaint is that they used to have two swimming beaches and they closed one. The one they closed was the best of the two and my family really hates that it isn't there anymore. Shopping needs are nearby. Great campground.
This was our first time at Fort Hamby. We stayed in site 12 which was very roomy. All the sites were well maintained. The bathrooms were updated and clean. Camping sites are down one road and the swim beach, park, and boat ramp are down another. Because the amenities are down another road it makes the camping area very quiet and peaceful. Sites are very well shaded. The roads are hilly which is why I left my bicycle at home, but the younger crowd enjoys that. Swim beach was clean, and there is a parking lot right next to it. There are some trails to the water and fishing was very popular. There is a Walmart, restaurants, and other shopping about 5 miles away. If you are coming from Wilkes, the Walmart is on the left before you get to the campground. The office sells ice and firewood, and you can borrow life jackets there, also. We enjoyed our stay and would camp there again.
This was our 3rd stay at Bandit's Roost. We love this campground and it is close to where we live. We stayed in site A54. We always enjoy our stay. Water level has been low so the beach was closed. I have found this to be an issue at all the campgrounds we stayed at this summer. Someone comes and cleans the bathrooms daily, but I noticed that they were pretty messy on the day we left. Considering that the bathroom's trash can was only half full I think it is disgraceful for campers to throw paper towels all over the floor. But because the bath house is not monitored throughout the day I gave a rating of a 9. The park staff are always friendly and helpful. One note: Wi-Fi is only available at the gatehouse and there is a fee. We will camp here again.
We enjoyed our stay at Paynes Creek! The campground hosts were very friendly. We stayed on site 30. We were originally staying on site 31 and they had no problem allowing us to switch to 30 because it was more shaded. They also were helpful and let us borrow a tool when we had a problem with our camper. The campground was what I expected from a COE campground-clean, lots of trees, and shady roomy sites. Almost every site is on the water. If you need a Walmart or restaurants there are plenty in a town about 15 minutes away. We would stay again.
This was our second visit to Bandits Roost. We stayed on site A45. Sites are roomy and there is space between sites which was great since the park was full. There used to be two swimming areas, but now there is only one. The office staff said that the other one was too deep for children. Too bad, because it was the better of the two and my teenagers enjoyed it. There is internet available, but only if you are at the entrance and at $5.00. Not convenient at all which is why I gave a rating of 9. The park staff is friendly. There is no store to buy supplies, but there is ice and wood available to be purchased. I would recommend this campground. We plan on camping here again at the end of the summer.
We stayed here for 3 nights in A48. The staff was very friendly. The bathrooms were clean and we even witnessed a worker cleaning them. There was a room that looked like it used to be a laundry room, but no longer held any washer and dryers. I did not check on other sections of the campground to see if a laundry room was available. The sites were great sizes and many were in shade. Some site were right on the lake. It did seem that it was time for the sites to have new gravel. Our site was clean when we arrived. There are areas for swimming in the lake and the areas around the lake were clean. The price was great at $22 a night and we had water and electric, but no sewage which I feel was reasonable for the price. We would love to camp here again.
This was one of the best campgrounds we have ever stayed in. The sites are very shady. Most sites were large and roomy. They are a few sites that are kind of small. We stayed in the back in site 316 and loved it. When we come again we will stay in the back again. Access to the ocean is easy. There are lifeguards there each day. They have a nature center and activities for children on most days. Bathrooms were great for a state park. There are only a few sites with sewage access and they are towards the front. Also you can only get Wi-Fi if you are at the store or in a site near it. Staff was very friendly and helpful. There is a grocery store right across from the entrance which is very convenient. We brought our bikes and it is a great place to ride around. We enjoyed our stay and will camp here again next summer.
This is the 2nd time we have stayed at this campground. The owner puts on a nice fireworks show, which we have enjoyed for a few years now. I was a little disappointed this year because there was a mistake with our reservation and it was not taken care of in the manner I felt it should. I believe that the owner should have either given us a discount or given us the site we had reserved and called the other people and explained that we had reserved the site first and offered them another site. Bathrooms are not as clean as I like. It is common for the bathrooms to be out of toilet paper and paper towels. Some sites are really small. There are a few sites that shouldn't even be sites. Sites 13 and 25 are so small that they only fit a small popup camper and if you stay in that site you are forced to put your chairs in the path where cars and campers go through. So if someone needs to drive to those sites, they have to move everything. Like I said, these should not even exist as sites. One thing that I have noticed is that the owner does not enforce the quiet hours of 11-8. I know this because there is a group that comes every 4th of July that takes up about 7 sites. They are very loud and stay up to all hours of the morning. They are extremely disruptive and they don't supervise their children. If I come next year I will get a site far far away from this group. There are two swimming holes and a driving range for golf. There is also a Wal-Mart and Food Lion near by.
We stayed here for 3 nights. I chose this campground based on reviews I had seen here. The park staff were very friendly and helpful. The sites were shaded and very large. We had plenty of space between us and neighboring sites. The campground has 5 bathhouses. The only thing I didn't like was that the showers were semi-private. That's why I gave it a 9 rating. The bathrooms were clean, but there were no paper towels or soap. This seems to be true of federal and state parks we have seen. But for the price we paid we can live with that. There is no camp store, but a Wal-Mart and other stores and restaurants are very close by. There is also a great place to get cheap ice nearby, which the staff told us about: $1.50 for 20 lbs. There are playgrounds for small children throughout the park. Almost all the sites are on the lake and some sites have easy access to the lake for swimming. Some people bring their boats and Seadoo's right up to their site edge. There is also a beach area for swimming. We would definitely camp here again.
This was our first visit to this campground. The owner is friendly and helpful. The owner purchased the property a while ago and has been upgrading the property, but wants to keep it small. There is a stream that most of the sites back up to. the stream has two swimming holes and our kids loved that! There is a golf driving range which is popular. Our son enjoyed that. You can get three different size baskets of balls from the office. Almost all the sites are a good size and are gravel. The bathrooms were not as clean as I like, but they were adequate. Not many sites so it is very peaceful and quiet. There are some permanent campers here and we spoke to one couple who come every summer for 6 weeks at a time and they love it! There isn't much to their store, just ice and drinks. But a Walmart is only 5 minutes away. Our laptop got onto their internet service fine and was a strong signal. We hear the owner puts on a great 4th of July show and even some locals come to watch. We would camp here again.
We camped here for a week. The sites are a great size and we had plenty of room which is great when you have children. The kids enjoyed the jumping pillow which, for the whole week, was $15.00 to use. You can also pay by the day to use it. They put wristbands on the children each day. They have a pool, which the family enjoyed. The only reason I gave the campground a 9 was because they didn't sweep around the pool under the chairs and so forth regularly so it was a little dirty at times. And also the pool furtniture needs to be scrubbed badly. There are two bath areas. One is a bath house near the cabins with individual rooms. Each room has a private shower, toilet, sink, and a bench. The other bath area is located in the same building as the office. You need a code to enter and there are stalls with just showers or just toilets. The office is located on the 2nd floor of the building so if you are handicapped and you can't climb stairs you won't have access to the office, store, or eatery. They have a variety of horses and you can take lessons and ride the trails with the staff. My children loved it! The trails are not flat so be cautious. The staff was very nice. From what I understand, the new owners bought the campground a few years ago and have been fixing it up. The sites are gravel and the one we had was pretty well leveled. Some sites have decks which I am sure cost extra. There are also theme weekends for the children. Down the street are two family owned wineries. One took us on a small tour and tasting and the other just does tasting. All free and a nice place to visit. There is a walmart in town and other places to visit nearby. The KOA staff can help you plan your outings. I would come back here again.
Excellent RV park! We were very impressed. The staff was friendly and helpful. The bathhouse was clean and new. There were swimming pools, water slides, paddle boats, a gaming area, and a playground. We chose a site near the playground and lake. It was well shaded and clean. There are a number of cabins available which are new and looked wonderful. This is a nice campground for the kids to ride their bikes around. They have activites for the family on the weekends. We are planning on going again in three weeks and then again in October for one of their Halloween weekends.
We camped here with our daughter's Girl Scout Troop. My husband and I were in a pop-up and the girls were in tents. We found the bathrooms to be wonderful. They were new and very clean with many showers and toilets. The grounds were very nice. One swimming pool was open and it was large and clean. The girls played putt-putt on a very nice course. Some things weren't open yet for the season, like the other pool and one of the stores. I am from Virginia Beach and there is plenty of things to do in this area. Close by is the Virginia Aquarium and the ocean. We drove through the campground the weekend before to see where we would be taking the girls and it was packed. That was Memorial Day weekend. We stayed the following weekend and it was a lot less crowded. I give a rating of an 8 because the campsites were close together. As for the jets, thats life in Viginia Beach no matter where you camp or live here. Its the sound of freedom and locals have learned to live with it.
We stayed 2 nights in this campground. The staff was very friendly and courteous. The Campground was clean and the sites were well maintained. We visited the area nearby and had a wonderful time at the Lost Sea and the Mayfield Milk and Ice Cream Dairy. The campground was close to the interstate which made traveling easy. We could not here the interstate traffic at all. If we visited the area again we would stay at this KOA.
