This is a great park! We had a beautiful lake front site that was very private. Parts of the campground had campsites that were close together, but there are some sites that are more private. Hiking trails were nice. We only had to walk 3 sites down to hop on the 3.6 mile trail. The lake level was way down but still very beautiful. Host was very friendly. Campsites and bath houses were all very clean. No issues with security. We saw the host and DNR drive by several times checking on things. Nice amenities - playground, mini golf, horseshoes, volleyball, tennis, canoe rentals, hiking, beach. I would highly recommend this park and will definitely be staying here again! My kids, ages 7 and 11, both gave it a thumbs up as well. Happy Camping!

This is a very small campground on Lake Lanier. The views of the lake are incredible! The campground was quiet and a great place to walk, bike, and relax. We maintained cell service the entire time. The host was very nice and was seen quite often riding his bike through the campground checking on things. We will definitely be returning to Sawnee!

The park was beautiful! We had a great campsite, all the way at the top of the hill next to the primitive camping. It was right across from the stream, it was private, and completely shaded with huge hemlocks all around us. The temperature at our campsite was at least 10 degrees cooler than what it was down on the lake. On the downside, since it was the furthest campsite up the hill there was little to no water pressure. The park was aware of the situation, that is just the way it is at the top of the hill. As with all of the Georgia state parks, you cannot make a reservation for a particular site. When we arrived at the park, there were very few sites available. It was either the one we took or one of the interior sites. The beauty around us was worth the trade off of lack of water pressure. There is lots to do at the park. It has a nice beach, pretty good fishing, pedal boat rentals, biking, hiking, miniature golf. Despite some of the issues we had, we still had a great stay and it is an awesome park!

This campground was absolutely beautiful! The grounds are very clean and manicured. The pads and roads are gravel, but they are packed down tight. We had a campsite right on the river. Just behind the camper was a swiftly moving picturesque river, and a magnificent mountain view from the front of the camper! Most of the sites have full hookups, but a few do not have sewer. However, that was remedied by the campground management coming to the non-sewer sites with a honey wagon on Monday and Wednesday and pumping both your black and grey water tanks. The campground and attendants were very nice and hospitable. The grounds were absolutely meticulous. Cable worked great. Many channels available and the picture was perfect. Cell phone signal (I have AT&T wireless) was great. There is free wi-fi available. Our campsite was a little too far from the store/office so the wi-fi signal was unstable from our camper. I walked to a picnic table a few campsites closer to the office and had no trouble with it. In addition to the beauty around you, it is a short drive into Hiawassee, Brasstown Bald, Helen, Lake Chatuge, and High Shoals Falls. There is lots to do in and around the campground. Fishing was not very good while we were there because of the low water levels due to the drought. We will definitely be going back to this campground!
