Good Campground. Used as base for college football weekend. Friendly office staff with most essentials stocked in store. Store has lots of souvenirs and camping supplies. Campground was clean and well maintained with two pet facilities. Cable TV and free Wi-Fi was excellent. Bathhouse facilities a little dated and small but sufficient. Previous posts referenced "long termers". We road through long term section, which is separate from rest of campground and thought that the campers were well maintained and clean. Game room is also dated and most games did not work. Exercise room definitely needs attention. Most of the equipment was from the 70s. Easy on/off to interstate. One of the few negatives (and reason for 9 rating) was that they did not have a newspaper box or sell newspapers in the store. We would definitely camp here again if in the area.
Excellent campground. Friendly and informative office staff greeted us upon arrival. Concrete pads mean NO leveling. Staff was very accommodating as we were traveling with friends and they were able to get us side by side. Owner was onsite during several visits to the office/store. We arrived on the HOTTEST day of the year and had to do no leveling and very little set up. Voltage was low but with excessive heat and fact that everyone was using AC low voltage was to be expected. Water pressure and free Wi-Fi were good. Hippo slide was a nice addition since the last time we stayed at this CG in 2007. Children really enjoyed the Hippo Slide and pool. Store also seems to be expanded since last visit. Very convenient to local attractions including Busch Gardens, Water Country, and Colonial Williamsburg. Very quite park even though, because of outside temperature, we did not get to enjoy outdoors as much as we would have liked. We would definitely return to this campground.
Thanks Staunton Walnut Hills KOA for a remarkable July 4th weekend. The campground is very nice. Camped in upper section in the shade. Probably would not camp around lake due to limited shade. We utilized the "buddy sites." This is an extended site with two sets of full hookups so that folks camping together do not have to pull in backwards. Both campers share one very nice patio with round picnic table, swing, light post, and gas grill. One person pays premium site fee and the other pays reduced fee. This is the first CG we have stayed in that had this feature. Site was very level and only required minor (1/2 block) leveling. Planned activities included crafts, movies, a band, and fireworks for the 4th of July celebration. Staff escorted us to the site and were visible all weekend. Locals are permitted to pay a fee and use pool facilities, but we did not feel crowded at any point. Bathhouse was very clean. Only suggestion would be more planned activities. Other KOAs have had ice cream, watermelon, etc. Very convenient to Staunton and Stuarts Draft. We would definitely stay at this campground in the future.
We stayed on a non-event weekend so the park was quiet. Pool was slightly cloudy but otherwise clean. Poor cell phone (Verizon) service and no WiFi. Park was kept clean. Area around catch and release pond was well maintained. Campstore and office hours are limited. Easy access to Blue Ridge Parkway. Also within driving distance of Natural Bridge and shopping in Madison Heights. Park is gated at entrance and exit. We enjoyed the quiet weekend and would definitely camp here again.
This was our fourth stay at this campground. It was very nice as usual. The addition of the new pools, hot tubs, and store is very nice. It is much more convenient to the campground than having to go to the resort clubhouse. They also seem to have more activities planned. The only disappointment during this stay was the fact that we did not have the campsites we were promised when we made our reservations several months earlier. We were told when we made that reservations that we would have the sites requested. There also seems to be a need for additional security in the newer section of the campground. Some family members were camping in the newer section and had a problem with late night (past midnight) partying from several campsites. Other than these two issues, the campground is very nice and we will visit again. We still like the older part of the campground because of the shade. There is NO shade in the newer section.
Newer campground with many seasonal campers, though you could not tell. Helpful host and owners were present several times through weekend. Quite campground affords relaxation, within walking distance of Leesville lake, boat ramp and picnic area. Limited game room with pool table, air hockey, several video games and large screen TV. Great location for get-a-way weekend. We will definitely camp here again.
Great campground. Efficiently run operation. Owner enforces rules for the enjoyment of all campers. Road leading to campground is winding and narrow, but large rigs where navigating fine. Sites are shaded and that means trees but we had no problems. WIFI was intermitted but free. Did not take advantage of planned activities but they were provided. New putt-putt course and nice fishing pond. Great base camp for local caverns and close access to JMU. VERY impressed with owners level of involvement. We would definitely camp here again.
Third time camping at this resort. Great value for the $$$. Four units in group, two in older shaded part and two in new part. We prefer the old part because of shade. Some spaces in old part are harder to get into with bigger rigs. The new section provides cement sites with gas grill and outdoor sink at each site...BUT...there is NO shade. Maybe in ten years they will be better sites. Lots of activities for children including pool, game room, putt putt, tennis, basketball, horseshoes, and basketball. You do have to drive or walk to these activities. Resort is very clean and constantly patrolled. If you are a Blue/Green member, I believe the cost is $15/night. Horseback riding is available for additional fee. Campground was almost full this year.
Great campground, conveniently located near Civil War battlefields and Washington DC. Used CG as base for visit to both locations. Site number markers could be more visible for campers arriving after dark. Super restrooms and showers. Pool was nice but not heated. Camp store was stocked with basics and plenty of souveniers. The only negative was the lake which has a foul order due to, we assume, lack of water supply. The road into the campground is curvy so be careful. Sites are nice size and wildlife (squirrels and rabbits) were plentiful. We would definitely camp here again, and use as a base for Washington DC visits.
Excellent campground. Friendly and helpful hosts. Hookups were great and electrical voltage level always remained constant. Other amenities such as game room and planned activities were nice. Very close to Charlottesville and other historic sites. We would definitely camp here again.
Used campground as base for Hershey/Lancaster trip. We arrived very late and were greeted by staff who showed us to our site. Staff was very nice and knowledgeable. We needed some equipment repair and staff gave me specific directions. The only negative was on check out day. The staff does arrive early to put notices on your vehicle. They sit on carts watching for you to leave.
Great campground, staff was friendly and pull through sites were nice. Campground is gated which is good for safety, but not good if you forget the entrance card. Limited supplies in store. We were there in November when the season was ending, but it appears they have many activities during busy season. Facility is quite and traffic to a minimum which is good for children and people riding bikes. We would definitely stay here again.
We camped here for spring break last week in March. Much different than last time we camped here. Less people and staff during "off" season. Campground and restrooms are clean. Though all sites are back-in, hookups are excellent. Do not expect to get good wireless reception at campsites although coffee house has free WiFi. We would definitely stay here again.
