Beautiful park. Very clean bathrooms/showers. Beaches not crowded all all. Sites seemed VERY private with thick trees between sites. Gravel raked between each camper. 1/4 mile paved nature trail to the beach, bikes ok on trail. Paved roads great for kids on bikes. Dog-friendly (not on beaches). Staff friendly and available. Very close to shopping but very little traffic noise, seemed remote and could hear the beach at night, not the traffic, despite location near town. Sand clean, water clear. Highly recommended.
Very large park. But the sites were tight. Front area very tight and crowded. We stayed in the back area. Mud bottom swim lake. Clean Pool/ hot tub. Our complaint was the price, the only "extra" you get for the high price was the pool. Everything else was a fee, mini golf, paddle boats, go carts, etc. And all of those things are across a very busy road. Base price $20, but every adult (over age of 10) was an extra $10/night and every kid was an extra $5. For that price there should at least be a discount on the activities.
We camped here as an overnight stop on our way to the beach. The campsite we were given we had been warned would be tight for our 5th wheel, but the length wasn't the issue, the site was very narrow, it had a very slim spot to park then a steep bank leaving no room for chairs or relaxing. The family pavilion was nice, free basketball and ping pong. But our biggest issue, other then the steep campsite was the bathrooms/shower house. There was no doors on the showers, only a dirty curtain, the toilets were not separated, just a a room full of toilets with no privacy. This campground was 75% permanent sites. Pool looked nice, we didn't use it.
We just LOVED this campground. It was a state park, so less hook-ups (we were unable to get sewer) but we expected that. The beach was perfect, unspoiled, not crowded, dogs allowed (but never saw dog mess). Great price. Bathrooms were older but clean. Our site (112) was tucked into the trees and private. Many mosquitoes, but it was South Carolina in August! We would not have liked the full hook up sites out in the open field, not very private. We can't wait to go back next year.
Cleanest campground we have stayed at. Quiet, well maintained. All gravel sites. Very helpful owners, gave us tips on hiking trails, road conditions, even gave the kids ice cream out of her own freezer since it was too early in the season for the campground store to stock the freezer. Hiking trail into the park about 100 yards from the campground. Nice small playground. Sites 16 and 18 recommended.
We camped here for opening weekend of Carowinds. The best thing about the campground is the location. A shuttle (with friendly drivers) runs to the main gate frequently. Unfortunately the sites were small and very close. The grounds were sloppy looking (uncut grass) But the location would make us willing to return. Friendly staff. Bad thunderstorms with tornado warnings on our second night and the security went from camper to camper letting us know there was a shelter set up in the park.
