We have stayed at this Park several times. It is a great overnight stop, but we have never camped here for an extended stay. The people are friendly, the Park is clean as are the rest rooms and showers. The gnats (no-see-ums) have been a real nuisance each time we have camped here, and their presence tends to limit outdoor activities. Don't know if management could spray for these little pain-in-the-necks! The gals in the office were friendly although they were learning a new computer system at the time of our arrival. The campground is located almost on the shoulder of I-75, so expect noise from the 24 hr. traffic. The concrete pads, good cable TV, free wi-fi, good accessible electric, water, and sewer are all pluses for this Park. The tall oak trees with the hanging moss are beautiful and make for a pleasant camping scene. Get rid of the persistent bugs and this is a "10" Park!
We have camped at this park for many years, and it just seems to get better. There are new owners, and their enthusiasm and happiness with their work are contagious. The Park is as clean as any we have encountered. The rest rooms and showers are spotless. We couldn't give it a better review.
If the owners of this Park asphalted the roads and parking pads, my estimation of the Park would increase considerably. At the present time, the roads consist of rutty red dirt that eventually covers everything: shoes, vehicles, inside rv's, etc. When it rains, the mess is compounded. So what gives this Park a rating of "8"? The rest rooms and showers are impeccably kept as is the swimming pool area. The campground hosts are pleasant and willing to make your stay with them a worthwhile experience. Free Wi-Fi has been added since our last stay, and cable television is excellent. That's a real plus for computer buffs and TV geeks. Some of the sites are arranged in a weird sort of way. When we arrived, I asked for a site with full hook-ups. It took the lady at the office a long period of time to check manually the dates I wanted and the availability of the same site for that period of time. It seemed to me that in this day and age, a computer program must be available for organizing and managing campground sites. At any rate, when we arrived at the site, the sewer was located on the curbside of the trailer, not the side for water, electric, & sewer hookups. When I inquired about this, the lady said that some of the sites were designed with Canadian RV's in mind. I took that to mean that Canadian RV's have their sewer on the curbside??!!
We have camped at this campground several times, always just overnight. In the peak summer months, the campground is full, and it appears that the campground has plenty of regular campers, perhaps many for the entire camping season. The campground is located atop a very steep hill with gravel road access, which can at times be problematic. The traffic is one-way and meeting a vehicle coming down while you are going up is a scary experience, especially when you are tugging a 30 foot trailer behind you! Since the park is full most weekends, the rest rooms and showers are used constantly, and there are plenty of children of all ages running around. This is definitely a family oriented campground, so if you are old and stodgy, this isn't for you! The facilities weren't so much dirty as they were overly used and not attended to. The rest rooms and showers are something out of the 1950's vintage, so don't expect modern. The actual RV and tent sites are carved into the contour of the top of this bluff aka hill or mountain. Some of the sites are very spacious and heavily wooded. The campers all seemed to be having a good time and outdoor cooking was predominant with people sitting around open pit fires. The office is located at the bottom of the campground. Visa and Mastercard accepted, but not Discover. Recommend calling ahead for a reservation.
The campground is shady with large oak trees, and the campground is well maintained. The campground is located very close to I-75, so expect traffic noises 24 hrs. a day. The no-see-ums (little pesky bugs that are small enough to get in through screens) were out in full force, limiting outdoor activities. That being said, we would camp at Eagles Roost again.
I stayed at this campground for only one night, so I can't address the recreational activities that are available for families. This is a newer park, and whoever planned the park, knew campers and recreational vehicles. It is well thought out. However, the campground is very close to Interstate 75 and is practically treeless except for the newer seedlings that have been recently planted, so there is no shade whatsoever. But what is lacking in this area is made up by the cleanliness of the facilities and the friendliness of the staff. I did find that this campground's fees were the most expensive of any that I encountered on my trip.
While this park is well kept and the sites are spacious, I found the cost a tad bit high. In fact on a trip from Southwest Florida to Upper Michigan, this KOA was the most expensive. The amenities were no better or worse than the other campgrounds that we stayed at. The traffic noise from I-24 is very audible as the campground is almost on the shoulder of the Interstate. On a positive note, the campground including the rest rooms were clean.
The people at the front desk were brusk and very unwelcoming, more like they were doing us a favor by letting us stay there. Granted. This was the 4th of July weekend, and the campground was hopping. It seemed as though every young child in Wisconsin was at the campground! We were assigned a site that had a table dragged into the parking place for the trailer. Fortunately, other campers helped move in so that we could get settled. The rest rooms reflected the congestion in the park, and they definitely needed to be cleaned on a "more often basis" because of the number of campers. We would have to be pretty desperate to camp at this over priced campground again, and I wouldn't recommend it to the casual traveler. It seemed to be more of a "home-boy" type of campground.
I have stayed overnight at this campground twice in successive years. Now I plan my excursion so that a stay at Camp Lakewood is part of the trip. The campground is well kept, very organized, the management is friendly and helpful, and the campground scenery is restful. I particularly like campgrounds where the management shows the camper to his/her site and helps to hook up. All the sites are on pebble-stones so there is very little mess in the event of rainstorms.
This is a very good, new campground, which is conveniently located and managed by friendly people, who will go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable and pleasant. The only thing that keeps this campground from an "excellent" rating is the lack of paved roads and paved sites. (The roads and sites are composed of iron ore dirt and when wet, can be a mess for the inside of a trailer or motor home.) Other than that, the facilities are well maintained, and you won't find cleaner rest rooms and showers anywhere else. The pool area is immaculately maintained. This was my second stay at this campground, and I was more than satisfied each time. I look forward to returning.
