This is an older park. Quaint is a good word to describe it. The bathhouse is very clean and has good water pressure. Owner and son are exceptionally nice and do a very nice job of keeping the park areas mowed. It is easy to enjoy a walk around the lake. The campsites are reasonably spaced apart and are very shady. We began our stay here with a CampClubUSA discount and have decided to stay for a couple of weeks while I tend to medical care. Weekly is reasonable at $100 as well as the monthly rate at $330 plus lodging tax.
Wow, this is a beautiful park! Very nice campsites with lantern hanger and decks. US Army Corps certainly did this one right! Very nice, very clean bathhouse with roomy showers. One of the camp hosts has property nearby and raises free-range, happy chickens. When you are here, ask him to sell you a dozen farm-fresh eggs. Watch carefully and you will see a few groundhogs in the wooded areas of the park. The only thing I didn't like is something that is typical of many National or State parks: neither my cell phone nor my wireless internet would work. Even with those issues, I will return to camp here again
We found Hill Top in our Camp Club USA book. We had planned to visit to another campground nearby; it was awful and we did not stay. It was 9pm when we arrived, unannounced at Hill Top. Despite the office having closed at 7pm, the owner came out to greet and help us to our campsite. The next morning, we went to the office to handle our check-in and pay. We were thrilled with the personal attention that we received. They also provided us with their weekly and monthly rates. We have been full-time since October '08; however had only stayed in one place for up to two weeks. We were so impressed with the monthly rate ($275 for 30 amp including electric, water, sewer, and Wi-Fi) that we decided to commit to the month of June. I travel with a service dog and in many places this can prove to be difficult because most people do not know about service animals other than seeing-eye dogs. Typically, I dread the conversation because it creates such hardships. I was relieved that these two owners were interested in learning more and had a true desire to help make our stay, along with my service dog, an enjoyable experience. This park has bathhouses, laundry and a nice large room that is set-up like a living room and has a lending library. We were invited to come sit with a group to watch the races. the Wi-Fi signal is very strong, even on the farthest end of the park. This is a great place for either an over-night stop or a long-term stay. I am very happy. In talking with other residents, they are also happy.
We enjoyed our say at Shady Acres. The couple who are the owners live on-site and are very nice, helpful folks. The office/laundry/bath are actually a trailer with a nice front porch complete with a porch swing. The owners were nice enough to provide us with a key so we had access after they closed the office. The laundry had economical washers & dryers that cost much less per load than anywhere else I have done my laundry. There is only one bathroom, because it is the original bathroom in the trailer it also has a large shower/bathtub and it is really nice and very clean. There is also a sitting area/kitchen as well as a sitting room with a lending library of books. We enjoyed swinging on the front porch reading borrowed paperback books while waiting on our laundry in the cool evening breeze. It was wonderful! I would feel safe here, even if traveling with kids. Even though there really isn't anything for children to do at the RV park. If you were traveling with kids and had a day full of other activities, this would certainly be a great place to settle in for the night. There is access to a river at the back of the campground and the owners will be happy to show you how to get there. For us, this was a very convenient, easy to find location situated in a quiet, older, small neighborhood.
[REVIEWER DID NOT STAY AT PARK] We called Wilderness RV Park. We found it in CampClubUSA for 1/2 price. It sounded good based on 3 star Woodall rating; pool, hot tub, bathhouse, WiFi, etc. We called & made arrangements; the office closes at 6pm. We were to arrive at 7:30pm, & they were to leave an envelope on the door of the office with a map of the property & a note as to what site we will be on. Well, we got there, and there was no envelope, no map, no note. There were many sites with only a few occupied, and dirt roads with scary run-off edges. Most sites appear to be on slope beyond what most rigs can level on. So we take the first available spot, B-1. WiFi signal was too weak to get online. So we move to one on the bottom of the property next to the bath-house with the laundry, hoping that maybe that is the hot-spot. No, still not enough signal to connect. And then, we go to the bathhouse, YUCK! We decide to leave. We would rather boondock than pay 12.50 (reg $25) plus tax in this disgusting place.
