This is a beautiful, relaxing campground. We checked in with no reservation and stayed 3 nights. The third night was an add-on and we had to move to another location, but not a big deal. We stayed in Base Camp so we could have cable TV (the only area that does). It is so wide open and roomy here! There are about 6 or 7 areas of sites from which to choose. There are big open fields that I hear fill with deer, but during our stay we saw not one! Staff was friendly and this place has all the amenities you will need. It is also about 3 miles to town and about in the center of all sights in the Black Hills. Highly recommend.
I had no internet access to do much research, and had wanted to stay at Colter Bay, but found out it was closed so we stayed here without any checking online. Expensive and we had a Good Sam discount. It has short gravel pull throughs with barely enough room for a toad. The office is a tiny building which you cannot go into but use a sliding window. Was told not to park on the grass and must use the tiny dog run. The Wi-Fi was $2 more if I wanted to use it in the laundry room or free at the Lodge next door. I did not use it. The man at the front was not friendly at all or welcoming, just matter of fact. Here are the rules and here is your site. Would not stay here again.
We are currently here and it is very nice. We got in the south side premium for $40 with AARP discount. Nice concrete double slab with so much room. It is very clean everywhere and there is a beautiful pool, hot tub, and pond beside us. They have a nice dog run area too. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this place but they were full by 3pm. We did not have a reservation but got here about noon.
We stayed 2 nights and found the park to be very good. The sites are gravel and quite level. One or two small trees are on each site and a picnic table. I would say it is nothing fancy, but it suit our needs fine. The free coffee and chocolate chip muffins each morning were nice as well as the free paper. The staff is very friendly. The Wi-Fi was available, but it was quite slow.
We stayed here only one night to see Monument Valley. The park is very unique and we enjoyed it very much. You cannot beat the view! The huge rocks surrounding it are gorgeous. Our site, #36, was very easy to get into. The sites were pretty close together, but it did not bother us. The showers and restrooms were very clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. We would stay here again. The park is on red sand and my white westie came away with red feet from his walks!
We nearly did not stay here from other reviews, but we found it to be very adequate for our needs for 3 nights. I really wanted Wi-Fi and it is excellent here. Our site was very level, gravel, one tree, one picnic table and overall we thought it was a good park with friendly staff and the price is excellent. We had water and electric only, as that is all that was available as we just drove in without reservations. They helped us book our tour and answered questions. We would stay here again.
