Our plans on where to stay changed due to the flooding of the Colorado River, so the BLM site we wanted was closed. Portal was clean, laid out well, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Trees are present, but small, and spacing between spots was reasonable. Like many commercial campgrounds, there wasn't a lot of privacy. The owners allowed us to check out a couple hours late when we asked. The group camping area was flooded as it is near the river, but our site was dry and level. We fell asleep to the chorus of bullfrogs. We would stay there again.
We arrived later in the evening and were greeted by the camp host. He was very polite and told us to be careful of the people returning from the ranger talk about stars. Our site was back-in, with electric, picnic table, and fire ring. Privacy and site spacing were good, and it was a pleasant location. We would be happy to camp there again. The park is beautiful and well worth a visit.
