We weren't too happy with this campground. First it was difficult to locate as there's no street sign and no camping sign as you get further off the main roads. Then roads to the campground and entry into the grounds are tough for a large motorhome like ours, with low limbs and rough roads. The signage leaves a lot to be desired too. We watched everyone do the same thing we did - trying to figure out where to pull over to register and there's a nasty turn as you enter the grounds, so large RV's have only one way to go. Then we're told to pick out our own site so we had to unhook and drive the car around looking for a decent site that had full hook-up. The map wasn't very good and the sites weren't marked with full hook-up or not! We finally settled for a site near the main entrance despite concerns over the noise level. But many of the sites were barely big enough for a large tent let alone any RV. Even the sites big enough for an RV are very narrow and short. There seems to be a lot a permanent residents here, which is never a good thing. The Saturday after we arrived, a company was brought in to hold a wrestling match and there was an announcer and yelling and it was a bit much! We were also given a notice about thefts being a problem in the area which is not too comforting, the lake was closed due to goose infestation and the pool was closed. So, overall not a good experience but our membership in Encore at least got us a rate of $23/night so we don't feel so bad.
We enjoyed our stay at Saco River. The campground could use a little spiffing up, but overall the sites are large, relatively level, and nicely maintained. The sites were dirt, not even gravel and it poured twice while we were there so the motorhome and tires were covered with mud splatters. The sites could have a little landscaping, but they were clean. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The river was great and the kayak rentals were $20/pp for 2-6 hours, so not too bad. The campground is located within North Conway where there are some great little shops, an outlet mall, easy access to Mt. Washington (crazy!) and a wonderful old-time railroad you can ride on. We recommend this site for anyone looking for a laid-back relaxing, outdoor place..
This is a terrific casual park! The pool is spectacular (recently redone) of good size, heated and has plenty of tables, chairs and umbrellas. The fishing is definitely a major draw here. Although we didn't fish while here, we did taste some of the catch and it was wonderful! The sites are all gravel but the location to Marathon (15 min) and Key West (40 min) are a plus. The staff is friendly for the most part as are the guests. There is a cafe on site, which we didn't eat at, but the smells were very tempting. This is our second year here and we will continue to come back. Our fantastic rate is based on an Encore membership.
So sad! This could be a great campground! Nice water access and easy on/off to the highway, but terribly neglected and run down. Everything the prior reviews say is true. The train is incredibly close and does wake you at 2 or 3 in the morning, even if you like trains. And the collection of derelict campers is pathetic. A little paint, general maintenance, electric stability (yes, we had problems with the electric too: and with 2 dogs in the summer, not something we were happy about), and improved amenities this campground has some potential.
