We camped here over Easter. The interior roads were not in the best shape, but good enough for the kids to ride their bikes/scooters on. Our site was quite spacious. Not a very strict park when it comes to where you camp, my cousin turned his motorhome to face ours, no one had a problem with that. Sites are very unlevel, but not a problem if you have jacks. Very friendly & helpful staff. Lots to do in the park and the area. We had a great time and probably will return.
This campground is a diamond in the rough. It is a county park owned by Emmet County. This has something for everyone, tents, popups, motorhomes etc... We have a 40' motorhome, made reservations in January and was told there was only water and electric. When we got there they just opened up 6 brand new paved pull thru full hook up spaces, they were very nice and very spacious. Paved roads throughout, no traffic noise as it is way back off any major roads. Beautiful sandy beach right on Pickerel Lake. Playground, Volleyball, Basketball, Rec Hall, Large play areas. You can even rent cabins right on the lake. The best part of the whole campground is we had a great site w/s/e for only $18 per nite. It is about 1/2 hour away from Mackinac and Petosky. We will be back :)
Very nice state park. Lots of amenities. Boat rentals, beach, concessions, store, hiking trails, nature center. We stayed here over 4th of July in a 40' Motorhome and had a ton of space (site 23), the campground was full, but still had lots of room to move around. Very peaceful setting. A lot of sites were unlevel, but that's earth for ya! We will be back :)
Rather small campground, but extremely nice and laid back people. Excellent camping location for Northern Michigan tourist destinataions. Sites were a little small, but worked out just fine. Pool was nice, they covered it every night and cleaned it every morning. I would stay here again.
We camped here Labor Day weekend. Extremely nice campground and people. Everything was very well maintained, the grass, the restrooms/shower house, the out houses, the pond, the beach around the pond & the playground. Cute little store, they don't have too much, but they do have a lot of little toys and fun things for the kids. The slushie machine came in handy on a hot day sitting at the beach. The swimming pond was clean, they had a raft in the middle for the bigger kids/adults, and a slide in the water for the smaller kids. Everything was roped off to show where the deep parts are. There are many things to do... organized horse shoe tournaments, crafts for the kids, wagon rides etc... This campground was really nice for us, it was only about 1 1/2 hours away from the Detroit metro area. Very convenient. It is in a quiet country setting, not on a busy road. Seems great for large groups too. The only reason I didn't give it a 10 is because some of the roads had some big holes that bounced our RV around a bit, but we could deal with it. We will definitely be back here again!!
We camped here with a large group. Very nice office staff. CLEAN! restrooms & showers. Great little lodge with washer/dryer, fridge, DVD Player, Pool table & more. Playground was great for the kids, lots of activities (horseshoes, volleyball, disc golf etc...) 20 Minutes to beautiful Lake Michigan. Lots to do in the area, canoe, fish, swim, ATV, snowmobile or just enjoy the campground. They are open year round. The only reason I didn't give this a 10 is because the water hookup was at least 75' away from our camper, however, the staff offered to let us use some of their hoses. Also, the campground was very dusty (or muddy if it rained) not a lot of grass. Very nice overall, we will stay here again.
We stayed here overnight (site #4). About 85% of park is seasonal. Very well maintained, nice staff, friendly people all around. Right off of I-90 easy to find. We would consider a seasonal here. Nice little lake for swimming & another pond for fishing/paddle boats. Arcade/planned activities/church services. A lot to do here, and again, it was clean and maintained. Well planned sites and locations for things such as dump station. We would stay here again.
Positives - Nice natural setting park, friendly staff, good store, great pools, cabins looked good, convenient location, golf cart rental was reasonable, mini golf was fun. Negatives - Huge campground, too much gravel, all gravel sites, could not ride bikes (even if we could it was too far from our site), very hilly, our site was OK for leveling, but I could see how some were not. All in all, we had a nice time here and made the most of it. We would probably stay here again.
We stayed here during the 4th of July in a 39' Class A motor home. They put us in a tiny pull thru spot right next to the expressway. The sites are only about three feet apart with the next sites water electric & sewer hookup in the middle of our site! Needless to say, we got to know our neighbors very well. The property was very poorly maintained, our grass was at least 2-3' tall on our site and all over the campground. They finally decided to mow a few spots at 9:00am on Saturday morning. Mind you there were plenty of open sites they could have mowed, but no, they tried to mow a site that was already occupied. The man was trying to clean off the front of his motorhome and the mower guy was throwing up dirt and rocks towards the visitors camper. Oh, and you better be out of your site BY 11:00am... They have people on golf carts making sure you are out on time... I told them if they were so attentive to the maintenance to the property as they were to get people out, they might have more repeat customers. The only reason I gave this KOA a 3 rating is because most of the staff was nice and helpful, the location was good, Marting's Fantasy Island was worth it (Buy the ticket at the KOA store and walk across by the train). However, they should be ashamed of the prices they charge for such a packed in, poorly maintained place. I will not be returning to this KOA, nor any other KOA again.
