If you want to be close to the ocean, this is the campsite. You are just feet from the water at high tide. Dry camping only with no facilities at all - not even water. Sites are very small. Just enough room to park our motorhome with a small area for eating outside. Very noisy with the trains rumbling by and the highway above you but the crashing of the waves drowns out most of that. Very close to Ventura and we biked into town each day on the bike trail which ran just above the site.
We camped at the Sycamore Canyon Campground for 4 nights with our entire family (15 people in all). I booked 2 sites and we had lots of room. In fact our sites were huge. The toilets and showers were cleaned every morning and the trash was picked up daily. Very picturesque in the canyon with lots of very good hiking trails. You can walk to a very attractive beach with picnic tables.
Disappointed with the campsite on arrival as the brochure photos depicted a more upscale site, and the sites only had peek-a-boo views of the ocean. For the price we were expecting luxury. However, our site, which was a premium site on the highest level, grew on us as the week progressed. There was a high hedge between the sites which gave us some privacy. We arrived mid-week and the campground was only half full and we had the pool to ourselves. However, the weekend it was full and it became rather crowded. Staff were helpful and the facilities were kept very clean. WiFi was sketchy and sometimes worked and sometimes didn't.
Well managed park with every facility and very clean. Plenty of supervision and spotlessly clean showers and toilets. Our dislike was the lack of privacy in the small sites and the constant coming and going of trailers which the resort stored. Very busy with lots of kids. WiFi was useless. Had to get the office staff to redirect the IP address and even then it was painfully slow.
