This municipal campground continues to be one of our favorites to visit with our teenage kids. Right on the river where the kids enjoy floating and kayaking and within walking distance to downtown Golden with great dining and drinks opportunities for the adults and kids alike. The campground is relatively small and does not take reservations, so a bit of luck is required to get in on first come first serve basis in the high season. Wifi is excellent, campsites are level, some full hookup, some elec/water only. Only a few tent sites available. Bathrooms are kept clean and even during the weekend Buffalo Bill days festival the city ensured campers privacy by adding security at the entrance to the campground. A great place with the family if you can get in.

We have stayed at this campground 5 or 6 times over the past years and they continue to deliver a consistently excellent experience if you know what you come here for. This place is not cheap but the facilities are really very good. Very nice pool, spotless bathrooms and laundry facilities, clubhouse facility with lounge and tables and fitness room, free coffee daily and good wifi throughout. The campsites are almost all level and all are paved or concrete. This is not a back country experience but a perfect full service campground especially excellent for big rigs. Many large pull through sites. Don't come here for the countryside camping experience with a family of kids. Do come here for the proximity to lovely Golden and the foothills of the Rockies in a top notch facility.

In the generally very commercial area around Mt Rushmore, this is a haven of tranquility yet still close to all the action. The 2 mile state road up to the campground may be a bit much if you're 45' and towing but for our 33' rig it was no problem at all. The campground is very quiet and scenic, situated on a hill. The sites are not al level and leveling may be a challenge in some sites. At our site the sewer connection was somewhat uphill from the site, a bit unusual and made dumping somewhat of a challenge. Fire rings, tables, pool, playground, store etc all nice and all well cared for. Friendly and helpful staff. Internet weak and cell reception also weak. That is the downside of an an otherwise excellent and peaceful full service mountain surrounding. Will definitely come back for the rest and beauty of this place.

This campground is a typical KOA with very active managers/owner. The sites are all gravel, mostly level. There is grass at each site and while not yet fully mature, there are nightly sprinklers and TLC that is improving this. The all around feel of this place is that the owners are working hard to improve an develop the campground. It deserves a good rep. Tent sites are large and well cared for. Each campsite is raked and cleaned as soon as it is vacated. Maintenance work is being done on a daily basis. The pool is clean and pleasant. The bathrooms are not new but they are kept very clean. The staff are very accommodating, bending over backwards to stop us from having to move to another site when we extended our stay. WiFi is one of the better ones we've encountered in a while. Not a lakefront property in the Flaming Gorge region but when you're looking for a friendly and properly cared for full service campground, this is it.

We stopped here on our way from South Dakota to Utah and couldn't have wanted for a better stopover campground. Yes the facility is newer and therefore the trees young and small. The owners have made up for this however by adding astroturf at each site and in the playground. While close to the highway it is far enough away so that highway noire is not an issue. The campground host (Lois) must be one of the friendliest and most helpfull we've ever come across. The bathrooms are some of the cleanest we've seen, including two home-style bathrooms in the main building. Great laundry facility and the game room is pleasantly without electronic games and stocked with movies for the flatscreen as well as a new fussball and pool table. This is not a destination campground for your vacation but as far as stopovers go, this is one of the best.
