We are definitely not private RV resort people. We much prefer state parks, privacy, and rustic campgrounds. That being said, our purpose for visiting Neshonoc was family gathering, not "escaping". The sites were much wider than I anticipated, nearly 50 feet, and made it feel much better than other resorts I've been to. The restrooms and showers were as good as any I've been to, clean and lit well. Quite a few activities for kids and adults, nice playground and swimming pools (yes two). Rating 8/10 because it was a steep nightly rate, a fair number of private sites, and an annoying number of golf carts whizzing around everywhere. BTW: you can rent a golf car here too.
We generally choose the State Park experience but thought I'd chime in this resort since we tried it for the first time. I'll second the previous review from July 2009: "I saw no dogs running loose, no dogs off leash and nobody not picking up after their dogs. This place is great. Full hookups at every site, excellent Wi-Fi reception". For an RV-style resort, I felt it was excellent. It was even much quieter than I expected for this style of resort. I would stay here again if my destination was near here.
We've camped at Bear Head 1 or 2 times a year for the last 3 or 4 years. They have a good selection of electric and non-electric sites; the sites on the non-electric loop are a bit larger and roomier. The shower/restroom facilities are very good. The lake is great for canoeing, boats are limited to 10 mph. There are plenty of hiking trails to explore. It's great relaxing and enjoying this lesser traveled state park. Ely and/or Tower is only about 20 minutes away to get your 'town' fix or if you need supplies.
