Very enjoyable! This was our first stay here and despite the fact that I came down with a cold, that I still have; and it was one of the hottest Mothers Day weekends in May to date; we enjoyed ourselves very much! Everyone was very nice (campers and staff), the beach was very close, the intercoastal was clean, and overall the park itself was in relatively good shape! The restrooms were a little run down (broken towel bars, peeling paint, broken stall locks), but were kept very clean by friendly staff! The main building and the pool/jacuzzi need a fresh coat of stain/paint and some general upkeep. Word of Warning! Do not show up early or you'll be charged for a half day!! We were a couple hours early and you would have thought that we had been caught with our hands in the cookie jar! Fortunately they had mercy on us and didn't charge us the half day fee. Many of the signs throughout the park have seen better days, but they appear to be slowly updating! They just recently added several new sites on the north side of the park and they put new picnic tables at all the sites (they're kind of small though, maybe seat 6). Many shaded sites, many unshaded sites. We will be returning again someday soon!
Very surprised! We got off to a horrible start, it was Friday the 13th! First off, I found a 12 volt electrical short in the trailer that took out the A/C, Fridge, and Furnace. Could only get the A/C working, so we left for the park. As we pulled onto the main road into the park, all we see is columns of smoke from what appears to be a forest fire!! Turns out to be prescribed burning thank goodness. We pull into the campground and we were pleasantly surprised by our surroundings. Very clean, well taken care of, spotless restrooms or comfort stations as they call them. But then I realized, this is a Georgia State Park, they're all very nice! The wife and I had a great time and enjoyed a tour of the swamp with many close encounters with alligators, probably two dozen or so. The guide was very informative and the weather was great. She did say that the bug population increases in warmer weather and that the yellow flies (they bite) come out for a couple weeks around April/May and again in August/September. Staff was very friendly, helpful, informative, and funny!
I was pleasantly surprised with North Beach! Very, very clean! They are still developing sites 111, 113, 115, 117, 119, 121, 123, 125, 127, and 129, but most of the other site are very clean, shady, and have all the amenities I was looking for. The river-side sites are a little more expensive and have little shade, but have a nice view. The only drawback to the resort is that the beach is directly across the road (A1A), just be careful! Overall, I really liked this campground and will be back.
I hate to speak badly of this campground because the staff there was very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the place really needs some work and the majority of sites are permanent residence of the park. It is on the beach which means absolutely no shade at all! The ocean is not visible from the park, you have to go through the dunes. It is very secure with gates from A1A to the beaches, but I would personally skip this park and head for greener pastures. Sorry.
Wow, what a dump! This place is horrible and in desperate need of repairs and upkeep. Please do yourself a favor and just keep going down the road. The Walmart parking lot has better amenities than this place. In one word..yuck!
Quiet and peaceful campground. Many pull-through sites and several back-in sites. The bathrooms/showers are in need of some work, but they kept them as clean as they could. Not much to do in the area, but the scenery is nice and it's off the beaten path, keeping things quiet. The park has 4 miles worth of very nice hiking trails and a nature themed putt-putt golf course. This was our second trip to Crooked River State Park and I'm sure that the wife and I will return when we need to charge the batteries once again.
Very nice and very clean. The wife and I truly enjoyed ourselves. The main bathroom is brand new and was immaculate. Everyone was helpful and courteous. There is a brand new boat dock just off the campgrounds. Most of the sites are pull-through sites and there is a separate area for tent camping. The fort and its museum are well maintained and rather interesting. We will camp here again. Watch the sand fleas/gnats!
