We go to all Clemson home games every fall and thought we'd try this campground over Labor Day weekend. Very few waterfront sites available and difficult to tell on ReserveUSA. This campground was o.k., borderline boring. There was no real access to the water, unless you were waterfront. The sites were not well-maintained and needed mowing. Worst thing was, we made our reservation for Friday and Saturday, and when we asked for Sunday night, they kept telling us to come back later, it wouldn't be a problem. Well they waited so long that someone had reserved that site for Sunday night over the internet and they wanted us to pack everything up and change sites. Totally weren't willing to work with us! No thanks, we moved on and won't be back. There are many better campgrounds on Lake Hartwell.
This is a nice, wooded State Park. There were a horse ring and trails for horseback riding. The lake was large and they had a boat ramp and boat rentals and fishing, but I didn't see a swimming area. Though we were waterfront, only the dog was willing to get it there (kind of mucky at shore). The sites are large, private and wooded, though somewhat unlevel. Biggest negative was that the lake loop of campsites had only 15 amp. power. On a very hot weekend we had to choose between lights and A/C. A/C won. The other loop, which is also nice and wooded, but not on the lake had 30 amp. Rangers were very nice and it was a pleasant place to camp.
This is a beautiful park. It is very quiet and full of trees. Sites are huge and private with level asphalt drives and picnic tables. Bathrooms were cleaned regularly and ranger was very nice. Only downside is not much activity for kids. Playground is not in the campground area. There was a boat ramp and dock and hiking trail. Would be great if you had a boat. Great for a quiet, layed-back weekend. Next time we will get a water-front site.
