Our family had a wonderful time camping at this park last weekend (June 2008). The sites in WI ridge were very spacious also with a beautiful view overlooking the bluffs of the WI river. We had site 120 which was at the end of a cul de sac. Our children ages 4 and 7 had a great time hiking and biking (lots of great exercise.) My husband also rode on one of the mountain bike trails as well and saw deer on the trail, very peaceful. For some down time, the we also did some crafts at the nature center for the kids. The playground is close as well. We will return to this wonderful state park soon.
This was a great IL state park. We put in for our reservation in January by regular US post mail and got a lovely grassy site. It was great for this time of year when it tends to be a bit colder. There is also another loop that has more wooded sites. The hiking was great at the state park, kids age 4 and 7 loved it. The campground was clean and very pleasant, we will definitely go back!
Loved camping here for the beach, a beautiful beach in Michigan, not too far from Chicago. We stayed in #36 with extended family in two adjacent spots. #38 was an awesome site, very private with trees. It was a bit loud at night with many college kids (didn't seem to be too much ranger interaction there.) The bathrooms were not the best...very muddy due to the sand but I don't think the appropriate steps were taken to keep it clean. Would I stay here again, yes but just for the beach..the campground was just ok.
