We chose Dogwood Acres after doing an extensive Internet search. Although we were looking for something closer to Gettysburg, we are certainly glad that we did end up at Dogwood. The owners are top notch, going way above and beyond to make sure that everything is satisfactory, and the come around and check on you at least once a day. The sites are level, gravel, and mostly shaded. The facilities are immaculate, and the amenities are just as they say they will be. Trying to find fault with anything here is nearly impossible. Their camp store is well stocked, the pool is clean and secure, and the fishing pond is too. We will certainly go back to Dogwood Acres when we are back in the area.
This facility need a lot of updating and improvement. From our arrival, I questioned whether we should even stay or not. No one was in the office when we arrived, and no one answered the phone. The owner's daughter was mowing in the park, and when we finally found her she was absolutely no help. Sites are oddly shaped and positioned, and are difficult to figure out. Our site was large and open, which was nice, but when we were placed where we had to be, our sewer hose was 10-15 feet too short to reach the sewer pipe. We had absolutely no TV signal the entire time we were there. On the positive side, when the staff did make their presence known, they were quite friendly and attempted to be helpful, and the bath house/restroom was clean and recently updated. We would not stay here again.
All reservation and check-in process for our overnight stop were very smooth and as described. We received a pull-through site with 30 amp electric, water, and cable as requested. The hill up to the sites is pretty steep, and turns are a little tight, but we made it into the site without any incidents. We were guided right to the site by the owner. The site we were put in was quite narrow (I would guess 11 feet), and was on a slight incline and also a right to left hill. Our jacks were just barely enough to get us level.. The campground, as previously mentioned, is very easy to access from the turnpike, but not too noisy for us considering the proximity. We did not use any of the facilities so I can't give feedback on them. We would consider staying here again, but probably would request another/better site.
We had a pleasant stay at Crystal Rock. We were greeted by a friendly staff, and were placed in the exact site that we were told upon reservation. The campground is easy to access, and convenient to the city of Sandusky as well as Lake Erie's western basin. The facilities are clean and well kept, and the owners are relatively new. Previously, the camp had been allowed to degrade some, and the current owners are doing a good job in bringing it back to life. We would most certainly stay here again.
