We stopped here for the last night of our 3-week road trip. Gorgeous park. Very family friendly for my 4 young kids. We got a site whose back yard was a great playground. Views of the Columbia are fabulous. The park is easy to find, the watering schedule is posted in the restroom. There is a swimming area as well, though we didn't use it. There are no concessions on site, so if you need some food you have either a half-mile walk to the I-84 interchange or a 1-mile walk to the family grocery store. Either destination is very bike or walking friendly. This is a great place, we'll probably stay here for a few days next year just because we loved it.
Wow. We loved this place. We camped here with 5 adults and 4 children under 8. The sites are large - it seems more like a state park than an RV park. We had plenty of room for our RV, my mom's car, a 3-man tent, fire pit, and picnic table in the busy part of the site. Then we had another 30' to the split-rail fence along Elk Meadow. Gorgeous view of Mt Adams (those are the luxury sites - $2 more per night, and well worth it). I mentioned I had 4 kids when making the reservation, and go a site very close to the playground and Trout Lake Creek. The playground is great, the creek was great for floating. It takes 50 minutes to go the half-mile to Trout Lake proper. The showers were okay - $1.25 for 5 minutes, good pressure but could use new showerheads. My RV shower is actually better. Other than that, the place is flawless. Beautiful, peaceful, lush and green. It's like camping without sleeping on the ground.
We loved this place. The showers were large, clean, warm, and free. The deeply graveled site was level. We arrived late and left at 9am, so we didn't get to explore it much. The clubhouse has games, there is both a playground and a nice pool. Too bad there isn't any grass - the place looks barren. For my family (4 kids 8 and under in a 30' motorhome with no slides) this is a good 1-night stand on a road trip. We'll likely stay here again if we're in the area.
Very clean park. Great restrooms (free showers, too). The playground was great for my 4 young kids. The large concrete pads are level, the staff is nice. Wal-Mart is only .3 mile away. But we probably won't be back. This is why: There is only 1 grill in the whole place, and it's 3' off the ground. No roasting marshmallows here. The grassy areas don't allow for tents. There is no game room or other recreation on site - the only thing for kids to do is the playground. No pool table, swimming, etc. The on-site store is really bare. This could easily be fixed, but it looks empty and lifeless. A campground like this one with little outdoor recreation needs a good cluhouse. No such luck.
