Fantastic park with great lake access. Park is typical Illinois State park. Few shower houses but mostly pit toilets. Water available but not on site. Dump at entrance. Hosts were very helpful and nice. Park huge with few campers. Sites mostly level, wide variety of site types. Very peaceful. Will absolutely go back next year.
Drove by here while in Galveston. They are rebuilding it with what looks like full service - including cable (the truck was there that day). However, the sites look VERY small and cramped. Few trees but not much landscaping. Maybe that will come later. Looks to be ready to re-open by summer. Not sure on rate, site wanted something.
Absolutely loved this place. The "new" set up is not that bad: a little backing up is no big deal. Our 4 sites were level, clean and dry. Bath house well maintained. Staff was WONDERFUL. Beach is less than 50 yards away: beautiful views and sea birds. Galveston was a little disappointing, but that is not the park's fault. Would give it a 10 but there's no sewer hook-up at the site. This place is not the Taj Mahal but wonderful for beach camping (best I've seen). Can't wait to go back.
We also stopped on the way home from Yellowstone. Nice stop over. We called around 9pm and they kept a pull-thru site open for us when we got there at 11pm. Sites were level, clean and quiet. Wonderful Nebraska sky that night. Road in seemed OK, nothing unusual. Would stay there again if passing thru. Kids said the Wi-Fi worked fine. We were near the back of the campground, near the cornfield (looks like a good year!).
Basically, if you like Disney and have a camper; you owe it to yourself to stay here. It is all 5-star Disney. There is nothing bad I can say. People are wonderful and respond quickly to issues. Hook-ups are wonderful though I would recommend using a water filter (high chlorine). The plus sites are amazing. Quit reading this and go!
Great campground for east side of Yellowstone exploring. It is required to have hard sided campers only. Did have a buffalo in the campsite one morning. Rangers are great. Site set-up is a little odd as mentioned earlier but usable. They do not have electricity this summer but will next. Water, sewer at sites. Only campground in YNP that has full hookups. Shower fee is unusual but we used our own so no big deal. Can't wait to stay here again. Store well stocked, gas station with propane. No cell service is only reason did not get a 10.
Wonderful campground. We try to make an annual trip here for a long weekend. Sites are level, clean and for the most part, spacious. Hookups typical for a state park in Indiana (30 amp at site, community water faucet, dump at exit). Store well stocked and facilities clean. The park itself is great. Fantastic canoeing, hiking, etc. A great treat for the family
Classic state park campground. Sites are highly variable. Some could hold two 40 ft class A motor homes and some barely a tent. Hook-ups vary as well (from none to 50 amp with water). Don't bet on a level site either. Make sure you do your homework. That being said, a beautiful campground with wonderful hosts. Great access to Lake Monroe. Bloomington is 30-45 min away. Only downside is the directions from the local highway could be a lot better. Would definitely go back again.
Absolutely loved this place. Would not want to spend a week but is great to see Wall. We planned to stay one night. When we told the staff we wanted to see the Badlands in the AM in our tow vehicle, they changed us to a "late checkout" (4pm) for $10 so our MH could stay plugged in. Our dog loved the extra AC that he got. Well worth it on a hot day. The campground is 2-3 blocks from Wall Drug. Had a wonderful evening in the store minus the large mid-day crowds. Wife even got breakfast donuts in the AM. This place will be a regular stop on our trips west. Level sites, clean facilities, small but usable pool. Good hookups.
Stopped here on our way out west. Had a late arrival. The staff had our reservation on a white board with clear instructions. Could not have been easier. Sites are level, pull-throughs. Campground seemed clean, we were only there for about 9 hours! Nice stop over. Would do it again
Highly recommend. Great views of the Tower. Sites level, good hook-ups. Staff friendly. Shower, laundry clean. Only aside, the "Close Encounters" nightly movie is on a 45" TV outside the store. Trees block the view of the tower. We brought our own copy and watched it with the Tower outside our window. It was great and a little spooky!
As others have said, this is a stop-over. That being said, it is a very good one. Sites were level, views were nice. People friendly. Even antelope in the campground at night. The mosquitoes were bad but they did spray the night we were here. Can't downgrade them for the mosquitoes. The campground gave us an easy, enjoyable drive into Yellowstone the next morning. Highly recommend it if you are coming from the north to Yellowstone (as from Glacier). BTW, the kids said the Wi-Fi worked fine in the camper. The only caveot, the campground appears to be for sale so things might change.
The Rafter J Bar remains as consistent as ever. This was our 5th stay here. It is getting a little pricey but the campground was full and they were turning people away so I guess they know what they are doing. The sites are spacious, especially for the Black HIlls. Close to Rushmore, Hill City, Custer, Crazy Horse, etc. Staff is quite friendly. Campground is clean, quiet, well maintained and feels like home away from home. They have added a breakfast tent that is very affordable and good food. Our kids wanted to eat there every morning.
Would recommend to avoid this campground. The sites are extremely tight. We booked in March for late July for 2 sites. The sites were not together. And the sites are way overpriced. The camper next to us had his awning over our site despite his camper being on his site. I asked for a different site (one closer to our family) and was told the campground was booked. The "gentlemen" that guided us into the site just loosened the struts of the awning and pushed it back. I asked him to leave a note, not wanting the confrontation when the other camper came back. I was told they would. No note and when the other camper came back, he was fighting mad that someone touched his awning. Fortunately, I am a big guy and his wife was cool. No fight but close. The dump for our site was two feet from his door. The campfire site was three feet behind our camper. The sites are just too close together. All in all, as above, I would avoid unless you are going there to use the Snake River, as they do have good access and a water sports center at the campground.
The park was clean, well maintained and extremely close to Disney. 50 amp sites are paved and level. Laundry clean and large. Pool with very comfortable water. Bathrooms recently remodeled. Only issues we had was that the 50 amp sites are very close together (our neighbors slide out encroached on our site). Our other neighbor's kids were quite loud. The 30 amp sites looked larger but not paved. Also a little pricey but we stayed during Spring Break 2008 and Ft Wilderness was full and this is the closest campground outside Disney. All in all, it is not Fort Wilderness (what is!) but is a nice second choice. If this campground were anywhere else, it would be a regular stop on our travels.
Not a lot here but is a handy overnight stop on the way south (started near Chicago). Have ATM type of check in for late night arrival. Will definitely stop next trip south as is beats noisy Flying J's and Wal-marts.
Wow. If you can get sites in the front by the beach, this is an amazing campground. Location is remote so don't plan on doing much off the island. We stayed 5 days and wanted more. The kids enjoyed the beach daily and adults found it very relaxing. Staff was wonderful.
Loved this campground. The camp is in the middle of a coastal forest with lots of trees. This makes for no grass so it is a little dirty. the restrooms were cleaned daily. If you are looking for a 5-star resort, this is not the place. If you like rustic camping with a great staff and beautiful location, then come on down. Jeckyl Island is wonderful. Lots of history and biking. Beaches wonderful. Great for a family.
